Get dreadlocks done in Stafford

Hey,

I'm looking to get some dreadlocks done soon, and I was wondering what sort of places are around that offer that sort of service, (specifically, backcombing). Anybody have any ideas as to where I could go? I've looked about a bit online, there isn't much I can find.

Any help would be appreciated. Cheers :)

There's a guy on the market who sells Afro-Caribbean hair products...could be worth asking him. If you use the entrance closest to Wilko he's on your immediate right as you walk in.

Other than that I know a few people who've done their own from scratch - I'm sure they'd be happy to give you advice.

Thanks Andreas, next time I'm in town I'll go in and see the guy, hopefully he'll be able to point me in the right sort of direction.

i have been always under the impression that 'dreads' were something hat just naturally occurred with dirty peoples hair, i didn't realize there was a technique!

Yes there is a technique, although hair can be just left (no combing sort of thing), but they aren't the best looking dreads ever.
And thanks, I'll look into it. I have a feeling I probably will have to end up going further afield to get them done. But thank you :)

I'm planning to do this once my hair's grown a bit more. I suspect that I should be able to do it simply by backcombing and rolling, as when it was long and couldn't reach the back to comb it properly it started matting together nicely - however there are waxes you can use that are meant to stick it together and keep them nice.

Yeah, I've done my homework on this. I'm looking to have backcombing done, but I don't think I have the expertise needed to do it - I don't really want to mess it up. I'm also going to try stay away from the wax sort of options, I've heard they aren't brilliant for your hair.

You can't really go wrong with backcombing, but if it goes wrong and you have the patience of a saint and a high pain threshold you can always comb it out by starting at the ends and working towards the roots.

So I could always easily get them done by a member of my family or a friend? I thought there was some method to it (like rolling the hair between your fingers while combing). I'm looking to have this haircut for a while, so I want to cut back on the complications

I don't know how easy it is, but if it goes horribly wrong then as long as you don't use wax it is possible to comb out the backcombing.

Show my ignorance here so forgive me. Do you need to be Afro carribean to get normal dreds as when I see white folk with dreds they look just as good but obvious their hair is straighter.

Hi sorry to revive an old thread but if you did get dreads and want somewhere local i can sort you out. Go to www.domydreads.com and have a look :)

only found this thread because it's your birthday so your name popped up on the main forum home page, but just wanted to say congrat's on possibly the most flamboyant (and presumably hard to remember/type) username, Em☆★!
