Getley Kitchens noise pollution.

There has recently been quite a significant increase in the noise levels from Astonfields. The source is a new extractor at the Gately Group building on Carver Road. This device is stupidly noisy and starts up as early as 4am - when it first started, I thought my fridge was having a fit and spent some time investigating it until I realised that the noise was outside.

There is a bit of a campaign on to sort it out - anybody likely to be affected in Sandon Road, Sandon Mews, Fairfield Court and Tenby Drive should have had a flyer from the chap who has instigated a formal complaint, after getting no practical response from Gately.

If you are affected and have not had this leaflet, then let me know and I'll put you in touch.

It would be tempting to look up the company directors and go and play pneumatic drill sounds outside their house at three in the morning if they are that ignorant...
This sort of thing - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-manchester-21653311 ?

Throw a spade in there or something, that'll stop that pesky fan.

Are there not laws governing how much noise they can make in such close proximity to residential dwellings, and at what hour?

There are laws - rather like there are laws about what sort of signs a solicitor can put up - but, they're only meant to apply to us.

A bit of a faff, but I doubt beyond someone of your electrical history G, but what about waiting until the fan is off, getting up there on a ladder, under cover of darkness, obviously, and altering the fan to draw air into the building, rather than extract it.

Then, fill the duct with flower/dust/whatever.

Find a suitable OP at around 0355 hours, and observe the fun as the fan starts up :D

A few days ago, I found my car covered in wood shavings one morning. I had been to quite a few different places the day before and couldn't narrow down the source. It seems, though, that it's happened to a good few cars, and other things, around here. The suspicion is that it's not only noise that we are being subjected to for the sake of other people's profits...

Borough Council Environmental Health are receiving some pressure - I will pass on your suggestion regarding Councillors, in case that avenue hasn't been considered.

This issue has drawn me in from being a forum lurker. Similar to Gramaisc I thought any number of my household appliances were on the blink. It's not too bad to start with but then it's relentless... pulsing through the pillows when you're trying to get some kip. I'm a reasonable bloke but I too had thoughts of sabotage to stymie these inconsiderate people.

Welcome - did you get the circular about it?

Thanks! Yes I did. I emailed the enviro-health person last night. I thought my boiler was on it's last legs... then I went outside and noticed the noise was louder. We routinely have the windows open in the "Summer" - I shudder to think what that'll be like... if it gets that far.

Odd, i work in serviced offices in the Schott Glass building right near where your talking about, never really heard anything. The gyms right there too, right?

You sure its coming from there?

I always find the noise from the tip and the scrap metal place worse.
