The 2011 picture - https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@52.8...4!1sgUvf4CkU_ncMTvjHqvwySg!2e0!7i13312!8i6656 - appears to show where the lower section was bricked up.That could explain a lot.

Looking closely at the 2016 Google photo it does appear to show the bricked up lower part of the window and at the top of the sign at that point the paint does not seem to match.
Hi Noah, here's my pic taken this morning. We seem to have a time paradox. My photo with the window enlarged & extending down into the sign and the lower window converted into a grill was taken 12 October 2009. The Google photo showing the original situation is marked "image capture 2016".
One imagines they fell foul of works inside the Conservation Area, and were forced to undo said works.Does make me wonder if there are any protection rights, for some ghost signs.
I think there is one under the tiled wall on the shop that is now the first building on the left after Patrick Street as you go out-of-town on Gaol Road.

Bingo!Yes there is, I can't remember what is was though, it may have been
for the shop below when it was Tinklers grocers or the betting shop
opposite which was Tinklers also.
So it may well be, being preserved thanks to the tiles. I do hope so.Bingo!

If the phone number is original, it's post April 1995, when the 1 was added in to 0785.Can I have this, as a ghost sign of Stafford?
It's been there for quite some time, from what i gather. Due to its postioning, and even though it's painted on wood, I think it may last a few years more.
The state of the building it's attachted to, is looking a little sorry for itself.
Shame, really.
