Well to be truthful most if not all the gigs I have been to were awesome but there was one or two standouts
Jools Holland -last weekend amazing simply amazing !
and now some random ones
U2 joshua tree tour '87 NEC - amazing intro using the streets have no name the bono meister placed a champers bottle or big glass or something on the stage as the edge noodled away on his delay then ..BANG just as the intro hit the creshendo Bono hoofed the glass which shattered in a strobe light amazing intro . I passed out at Brum International station through exhaustion after the gig
The 21 st century doors gig in brum a few years ago with surviving band members and I astbury doing more than a good job of morrisons vox excellent stuff
Stiff little fingers Brum Odeon early 80s.. right in the mosh then pogo pit landed on my arse and managed to get pulled up by folk only to end up right at the front of the stage . Wicked gig !I still often play my SLF very loud very often .
Prodigy- At V - awesome but I er got a bit lost and couldn't find my way back from the bog
The Who performing Quadrophenia Hyde park early 90s with the likes of trevor mcdonut and ade edmondson performing some of the roles .CG is bang on Daltrey is as good as ever and Townshend is a guitar genius . Check out some of the recent performances from the lengthy world tour they have just been on well worth it .Zak Starkey ( ringos lad) is drumming for them ..actually as well as Oasis and others come to think of it
Manics stoke college road - good gig but the background to the booking that never was and then after 2 attempts really was is what makes that one stand out .
The cult during the 87' electric tour - Astbury could sing like a demon then and duffy gave more than a good account of himself .
Whitesnake -Monsters of rock er..81 I think or 82 - Even had meatloaf and twisted sister , drowned by bottles of piss , wore the same clothes for 3 days and nights, no washing and even slept on a manure heap.fr the night . We hadnt got a tent ! ( it's very warm actually is amanure heap in a black binbag ) . quality tho
Specials, bad manners, and er.. cant remember lots of those type bands dixieland pavillion colwyn bay - memorable because a bit of the dancefloor gave way mid gig and you were left staring into the sea below ..
Sham 69 at the roundhouse London ! WOW !, young energetic idealistic music mad me giving it loads ! basically just a "sea of spit" great fun tho
The exploited, GBH and Conflict 100 club london -- Rough , loud, lairy, very drunk, what a fantastic day
and Angelic upstarts , the business, and anti pasti a few weeks later same venue
Julian cope - er lots of times.. blokes a genius never a bad gig
The Alarm-North wales ( llandudno or Rhyl can't remember ) sometime - 68 guns and all that !.. much yelling to be had
Cure - colston hall bristol - 3 lightbulbs and the truth!
cure NEC Wish tour 92 ..3 rows from the front .. yeppers
Kaiser chiefs V a few years ago - In all honesty that was without doubt the most bouncy thing I have ever been to outdoors ! C4 stage was very unprepared for the popularity of these lads . Also friends got stuck mid crowd carrying 10 pints of beer between them , with no way of getting to us . Troopers tho they didn't drink it until we eventually got to them some time later .
All and I mean all NMA gigs ever ever ever ever !and there's been nearly 30 so far!
Robert plant -Wolverhampton - voice is as good as ever
wait..this is getting to be along list ..sooo some bad ones
Judie Tzuke( who?) .Yup old tombestone teeth at the odeon in london. lovely lady but sent me to sleep - In fact a lot of london odeon gigs sent me to sleep
Alarnis moorisette- Jagged little pill tour- was I'm afraid to say like watching paint dry
Ian macnabb - ex Icicle works- I think he was just either having an off day or did too many drugs that night but it were pants
Bob dylan - Manchester - Yes I know I'm a philistine but I just didnt get it at the time . I do now but then i didnt at all . His voice drove me crackers ! Of course I respect him now before anyone starts
Girlschool - leeds. Just heavy rock happiness at the time but a bit embarassed now so its on the bad list
The real thing- Can you feel the force?-- er no ! again dreadful
Cud - leadmill sheffield - I just never got these guys
Belly - again sheffield not sure why I didnt like
Suade - ok but only just .. Bretts voice was battered and I'm not sure he wanted to be there either
Graham Fitkin ( I think that was his name ) at the Wigmore in london.. the gig wasnt too bad but had to put up with nigel kennedy banging on about how "this shouldn't be played on a piano "and "oh I think thats not at all the way the music should flow" type comments all through the performance - W5an7er basically ! put me right off me cultural experience .
GAYE Bykers on Acid - absolute rubbish full stop !
Put it this way have loved all the bands I have seen . You have to admire anyone who is willing to get on stage and have a go some were pretty bad and some were pretty good.. but they were all eventful in some way shape or form . Long may the music continue
