I've been suffering for the last 3+ months with a cold and terrible cough last gets 10x worse at night and makes me sounds like a barking seal . I'm always tired and have a really tight chest and find it really hard to breath in bed. This morning I finally decided to go to the doctors because the coughing gets so bad at times I feel like my ribs are gonna break . I got to the doctors and explained my problems and I just got completly fobbed off! Doctor didn't even check my chest or do any kind of examination and just told me " there's nothing I can do and try and sleep with the window open , I'm sure it will pass ". I asked her if she could do bloodtests to see if maybe I had an allergy to something considering my son had the same problem resulting in pneumonia before I switched the bedrooms around. Doctor just told me to try and move house! Refused any tests and said it was probably a coincidence.she said bloodtests wouldn't show anything and the only time they would do any tests would be if i had to go into hospital. Doesn't seem like a coincidence to me. My son was having breathing problems every night when he was in that bedroom , I switched rooms , he's perfectly fine and now I'm suffering .
So long story short , i'm just left to suffer. So p*ssed off!

I'm not sure what you expect the doctor to do. Given that the common factor is the room that you're sleeping in, and previously your son, so even if they gave you something that cleared it up, you'll no doubt go down with it again unless you do something about the room or your sleeping arrangements.

I have to agree with this, although the Doctor should still have offered an examination at least.

If you home is rented, Alee, tell the landlord you want something done as the damp in that room is causing illness which you have doctors records to prove. It might get his / her arse into gear a bit!!

Given that you say you've had a cough for the past three months, then I would have expected you to be sent for a chest x-ray as a precaution.

Sounds like the actual solution though is either fixing up the room to remove the damp or moving somewhere else.

thats the problem though .there is no mold there now , the room is just prone to mold because its an exterior cold wall. sarh say theres not a problem. doctor says thenesting birds can't make you ill. so i dunno what it is!

Ask for another appointment and insist on another Doctor. Explain to Doctor 2 that Doctor 1 fobbed you off and as you've been ill for so long you wish to be thoroughly checked out and reffered to x-ray if possible.

I agree, go back & ask to see a different doctor!

Mine is closed every Bank Holiday and on the first two Thursday afternoons each month.

I expect the doctors need the time to count their money then get it to the bank (he said uncontroversially).

Dosn't sound like a very healthy place to sleep. Is there not anywhere else you could sleep and see if your health improves.

If you have birds nesting in the vents that may be a problem especially if you are run down. You can get dander/dust off the droppings and feathers which is coming into the rooms, gets to your lungs and it causes a shortness of breath, coughing, conjunctivitis and fatigue.

Go back and see someone else - you shouldn't be fobbed off.
