Guildhall Break Ins

Really?

Apparently there were a number of break ins in the Guildhall this morning. A group of thieves decided to break in through the roof I hear and managed to get into a number of outlets. Anyone heard anything?

When I went into the Guildhall this morning there were Police taking statements I presume from some of the shop owners.
The boutique on the left as you go in wasn't opening and there were staff outside the half opened door of the shop with a barrier in front of. There were a couple of other shops I noticed that had got windows broken and one member of the police was talking to a man at the mobile phone kiosk outside Card factory , so whether his stall had been targeted as well I don't know.

Yes my shop was broken into, but luckily only the float was taken out of the till, so I count myself lucky. I was open for 11am after forensics had left.
Poor calendar club had left their shop takings in their till.
The other one was Snap, who had their windows smashed.
I have very good night vision cameras which had a clear view of the culprit at 11:35pm
It was just one man in his 20's who I believe got in via the roof.

I am guessing the manager of the pop up calendar stall will be seeking alternative employment on Monday when his bosses find out he left all the money in the till.

The sad reality is that this may be a small sole trader in which case it might be enough to send them out of work depending on how much was stolen.

Calendar club stalls sprout up everywhere this time of year, then disappear in January. Presumably all temporary staff, no idea what the company does the rest of the year

I assume this is a separate incident, but when I was in the O2 shop yesterday, they mentioned that someone had been in, disabled the alarm on their 2 iPhone 7s and stolen them. Thankfully they have the thieves and CCTV. I wonder if this is another case of them coming up or down the motorway to Stafford to carry out their robberies or if they are the same ones that attacked Whitehouse Foods?

If I was a tenant of the Guildhall Centre I would be very disappointed in the security offered by the centre itself. This is part of the massive service charge which is paid to the centre operators by the tenants yet it appears that the centre concourse has no sensors or alarms. Very strange.

Oh yes they are going to be in a lot of trouble.

I just wonder where they manage to park

I believe that it's Peccadillos who operate the Calendar club franchise in Stafford, I may be wrong. No matter who it is I simply don't believe anyone would leave takings in the till in the middle of a shopping centre, that is just plain daft- it is wide open and that alone would invalidate any insurances

Seems a bit 'small potatoes' for an intercity crew.
I don't know... A full days takings apparently from the Calendar thing, 2 iphone 7s, float from another till..... that's just a few things that we're hearing of so there will be much more. These things can add up.

Going in through the roof sounds quite professional. Did they not know there's a Barclays bank next door? ;)

Feel really sorry for all the shop owners involved, my mother had a shop lifter yesterday who turned a profitable day in to a non profitable one and left her feeling gutted and wanting to pack it all in. Retailing is very tight for sole traders these days so hopefully the police catch the culprit soon.

Without identifying your mum @Macphg
Does she have a shop in town?

Not in Stafford but another market town a few hours way. It's the second time in the last 2 months and its rarely ever happened before so I suspect that is why she has taken it so badly.

There's a lot of it about. I once saw what was almost certainly a "distraction technique" being applied in a charity shop, so I "hovered innocently" by the door, in case either of them needed to do a runner. Nothing untoward ensued in the end, though the person on the till had reacted very competently to the whole thing and they may have just gone on to try their luck elsewhere. The "local network" was made aware of the pair's attendance in the town.

Enjoying a drop of red.
About 18 months ago someone tried to run out of the current Mrs p's shop with an item. An elderly gentleman was also in the shop with his wife, who was browsing. As he happened to be standing by the door at the time as shoplifter was making his escape, his walking stick accidentally came into rather sharp contact with shoplifters groin, followed a moment later by it accidentally hitting the shoplifter on the back of the head as he bent over due to the groin incident.

The police were called and they then gave the shoplifter a stern letting off...
