Just had a guy knock on the door saying they are doing surveys for energy efficiency grants and all he needs to do is pop his head in my loft!

Yeah, like I am going to let a complete stranger into my house!

Didn't look at all professional and no prominent ID (I forgot to ask for it and like I say I don't let random men in my house for any reason anyway)

P.s. Should I contact anyone else about this? I.e. Police

Yep! Call the police ASAP I think if you ring 101 it will get you through to the non emergency line.

There are schemes in the UK for energy saving grants: (ps I thought your country was nearly broke )

We have similar schemes in Holland. Insulation of the loft and walls.. Etc.

But there are a lot of rules and regulations to be able to apply.
And they will always cost you more than you get from the grant!

Furthermore they only will send an advisor when you ask for it.

Update: I called 101 this morning and they were very helpful.

What they did say was that I should have called straight away as they would have dispatched some officers to at least check that they were who they said they were. After all if they are legit they'd have ID and wouldn't mind being asked about it.

If anyone gets a knock today, I would urge you to call 101 and report it - better safe than sorry.

I've not seen anyone, I'll keep an eye out, though this is a rented place so they might keep away, though they'd be more likely to bug upstairs than us.

My neighbour came round last night and said that someone had been going door to door on our road offering cavity wall and loft insulation using the grants. I wonder if it's the same company... He gave me a leaflet to show to my landlords to see if they were interested. I'll have a look at it when I get home.
we're over the opposite end of stafford to oxford gardens though...
