Help!! Is there anyway to find original floorplans?

Hi!

I've been searching for absolutely ages and not getting anywhere so thought I'd try here!

I recently brought a house and I believe it used to belong to the old Siemens factory workers (built approx 1910) and i would really like to know if it has a cellar (without causing chaos and ripping up the floor!) I know houses on neighbouring streets have them but can't figure out if we do... Is there a place which stores the original floor plans So I can see if it does.

Any help would be lovely

Is the house 'on its own' or in a run of similar houses?

Are the ground floors 'solid' or wooden?

If some of the neighbours have a cellar, could you ask them where the entrance to the cellar is located? Deeds might or might not include original plans but may no longer exist. When properties are added to the Land Registry the deeds are not required and may be junked.

It's in a run of similar houses - I have asked the neighbours and some say there is a cellar and some say there isn't the floors throughout the house are wooden
You could drill a small hole in the room(s) where others have a cellar and send a probe down to see how much space you have under there?

Access for cellars was commonly under the stairs, just for convenience of building.

Just a thought, would it have originally been a coal cellar? If so there would have been a chute outside the front of the house for the coal to be tipped. Anything from quite small & circular with a metal covering to quite large rectangular with a wooden hatch. Might not be there now but could be signs of where it was filled in.

Do you live on Sabine street. I used to live at number 24 and I was told that the house was built with a cellar but they were all filled in during the 60s or 70s when the houses were extended.

apparently the cellars used to flood.

An additional point when we bought the property on Sabine street we lifted the floors in the front room and there was no evidence of a cellar. Therefore if there was a cellar it would have been under the back of the house only.
