Help needed please - toilet won't stop filling

If possible pour a bag of caustic soda into the cistern, spray all moving parts with Limelite , leave alone for 12+ hours.then flush, Hey presto ! it should be as good as new, unfortunately our local water mix is not conducive with modern flushing apparatus....

Have you just tried lifting the float to see if that stops the water flow. It could be just the float having stuck in the open position? if that works you can then at least tie it in the up position if you need to.

Yes it's a screw one. It's makes no difference at all where the 'float' is . The water just won't stop
