The age-related hearing spectrum is only a generalisation. I know someone over thirty who can here bats, and that should be way outside his range. Noise pollution is a matter for the Environmental Health department, I believe, - especially if it is causing your lovely little guinea pigs unnecessary distress.

Edit: I can't believe that you let me spell "hear" as "here"!

Agreed, my hearing doesn't register as anything other than normal when tested however I know for a fact that some frequencies are far more audible to me than others.

I definitely cannot hear bats though, can many people?

Very young children often can. It is a rare gift amongst adults. I certainly can't. I have a bat detector and have tested him with it. He picks up the first bat at exactly the same time as the detector does. He doesn't hear it clearly, but can tell the presence or absence of the ultrasound reliably. I can hear nothing at all. It's just as well that we can't hear them properly as they are bloody loud and it would not go down well on warm nights with the windows open!

I think the railway line may be the source of your problem.....
Possibly... When it's frosty I hear a buzzing sound down by Crinoline Bridge.

I don't think it's from the Sidney Avenue shops, I went there a couple of months ago and don't remember anything - and if kids hang out there, I would imagine there isn't as those things are bloody annoying.

don't mention the blinds
the recent 'tropical' weather conditions will certainly impact on the way sounds can travel and reverberate......
