Ha ha, dirtybobby, you make me laugh you talk so much rubbish.

Still, you keep knocking those single mums... what did they ever do to you?
i can't tell if you're joking or not.. i know sarcasm is hard to convey in a text-based medium, but i don't believe you actually managed to miss my point so badly lol..

How many pubs have closed in Stafford recently? The Hogs and the Waggon are the only ones I know for definate, although I've seen a fair few "Rent this pub!" signs about. Thing is, if the pub was doing well, they wouldn't need to rent it out!
The Lamb, just suddenly locked its doors and posted a note about the pub lottery.
The Stafford Arms, after going through a succession of weak managers when Bob Bell left.
The Castle Tavern is still open, but it's not a pub any more.

My bet is the Hogs will become more apartments sold at an extremely high price to the commuters that are settling here. Though maybe the could fill those unsold ones opposite the prison first.....

My hope is it becomes a cute bistro/bar, has business slacked of that much? Haven't been in for a few yrs now, but it was always rammed from door to bar at the weekends.

The New Victoria. The Dovecote. I'll repost my pub list in the other thread with the changes.

Turn it into a prison. The courts then then save themselves money on transportation costs.

What a shame.....what a great looking pub (The Hogs) just let down by the management company/brewery who failed to develop it or improve it :(

The Crispin nears its re-incarnation as anAsian Restaurant. One of my colleagues assures me that the owner will produce a classy product, as he has a number of other establishments in which my colleague has eaten. Certainly all hands to the pumps there at the mo'.

I have a lot of memories of the place as it was the closest boozer to me growing up. My old fella used to bottle up there 35 years ago, when Ron Seedhouse was the Landlord. Always a pub that seemed to have potential. A vast back room that never got used much. I remember the actor who played Stan Ogden (Corrie) popped in for a pint, and chatted to my Dad. The old fella reckoned he just wasn't acting at all, that was just him!

Then of course it got redeveloped about 23 years ago, and for a brief period was THE place to go! Cars were literally lining the A34, with people coming from Cannock, Rugeley, Stoke and all over. Quite Bizarre as it was only a big pub, with a tiny dance floor, and no late licence, and that is what eventualy killed it. The application for a late licence was refused, and it gradually tailed off, and ended up a bit rough with a succession of lanlords/ladies who couldn't make it pay.

Or like you said, not sold at all....

My home town is over run with these crap flats and no-one wants to buy them..... Looks like Stafford could be going the same way.

I think the whole Hogs Head chain went down the pan when it was flogged to the Laurel Pub Co. (who have since sold Hogs Head on iirc). Not been in the Stafford one for a while, but wasn't particularly impressed last time I went.

Birmingham Hogs Head used to be really good around 9 or 10 years ago - nice pub, excellent beer, decent staff running the place. Now its rubbish. Lichfield Hogs Head similarly used to be OK, and is now crap. The only exception to all of this seems to be Wolverhampton Hogs Head which at least seems to have retained a decent selection of beer.

Passed it today on the way back from town and it said 'opening soon' or words to that effect.

I use the Wolverhampton Hogs Head a lot, its my pub of choice on wolves matchdays. A good selection of ales and you can also get served at your table so dont have to battle through the crowds to queue at the bar. If this goes then it will be a real shame.
