neither.

but my aunty is a trained reiki master and has worked on my mums arthritis before....my mum said it definitely felt better afterwards. she also did a lot for my grandma before she passed away to help with pain relief and relaxation- apparently it really did help.

personally, ive never had it done- but my theory is even if the results are only psychosomatic, who cares if you end up feeling better? isnt that the goal?

I've been to have the ear candles done at the Chinese Doctor down Crabbery Street a few times. I'd recommend it, especially before flying.

From the ear candling Wikipedia page:
Wikipedia said:
Ear candling, also called ear coning or thermal-auricular therapy, is an alternative medicine practice claimed to improve general health and well-being by lighting one end of a hollow candle and placing the other end in the ear canal. According to medical researchers, it is both dangerous and ineffective. Claims that the practice removes earwax have been thoroughly debunked. In spite of requests to do so, the manufacturers have refused to stop making false claims that the practice originated with the Hopi tribe.
(My emphasis.)

Ben Goldacre covers this in his book bad science, heres what he has to say on his website. But like cookie monster says if you want it to work and belive it will your going to feel better after most probably.

I'm glad you mentioned Goldacre; you've just reminded me I got Bad Science for Christmas and haven't started reading it yet.

You'll let us know when he goes deaf due to hot wax dripping into his ear, won't you? </scaremongering> :)
