Is it just me, or has a huge wind turbine just recently appeared behind the woods at Blackheath Lane?

I was at the University sports centre on Beaconside last night and noticed it but never have done prior.

    It's not you

I have been 'away' for a few months and also got a shock when I arrived back at Chateau Doxey

I also had not realised it had a name

Possibly after Sir Fraser the former MP?

Sounds like the one at Lower Hanyards Farm Hanyards Lane Tixall. Planning application ref 13/19171.

Not sure but probably not! The Planners turned it down but the Planning Inspectorate granted permission on appeal.

Going on the size of the one on the M1 the other day this is still a nipper

No where near the size of the cigarette holder that once belonged to Audrey Hepburn either

After visiting Yorkshire on Sunday I was amazed at the number of turbines, is Yorkshire one of the largest producers of wind produced electricity?

Our very own Stafford turbine appears very small in comparison to those up in Yorkshire. image.jpg

I do like the ones in Yorkshire off the M18 (I think, or perhaps M1 around the joining of the two).... thry remind me of the little windmill thingies you used to get on holiday as a kid and stick them in the top of the sandcastle.

Are they all called Hugh, or do they have other names?

Could do with one to power my Spa, as it's looking like it will be using around £15 a week to run :lorks:

I do always wonder when passing the station why the two on the car park don't appear to rotate even when it's blowing a good bit of wind?

Compared with most of the rest of the country Staffordshire is distinctly lacking in them. Mainly down to the "it will spoil the view from my windows" crowd. You don't want turbines or pylons near you then you should have the electricity supply to your house cut off.

Flossietoo & I discussed this very thing on our recent cycle excursion - passing, as we did, at least one 'down with this sort of thing' area. We were very much in favour.

Personally i would favour them even more if they were all called Hugh, though i wouldn't care to speak for Flossietoo on this front.

Wind turbines are ugly and uneconomical!

They are subsidised by the government so they can reach some half-arsed 'green' target!

I made mention of pylons as well - which later reminded me of a poem.

    No they are not.

Land based ones are well into profit in under 25 years
