I remember the old wooden slide they had there. Took a bit of it with me one Saturday in the form of a large splinter that went under my fingernail right up to the first knuckle. It smarted a little as I remember until a nice lady at casualty removed it with tweezers.flossietoo said:In fairness, nothing could be quite as hazardous as the old-style Victoria Park. In common with several members of my primary school class, my childhood was full of fun and trips to the SGI. There was a marvellous roundabout with a sloping top, onto which it was almost impossible to gain a secure purchase. My first night in hospital happened after I flew off said roundabout at impressive speed, landing on my head and making less sense than usual. I also had to have stitches after a steam roller injury (steam roller - best piece of children's play equipment EVER) and took ghoulish pleasure in the progress of an injury to the leg of a friend, who had fallen from the top of the wooden slide. Evidently large splinters of the slide had disappeared into her thigh and for some reason, when the SGI mended her, they couldn't retrieve the splinters and promised that they would "work their way out" in the future. And they did! Can you think of anything more fascinating for unpleasant children in a pre-playstation era?
I should imagine quite a lot of child abuse went undiscovered in those days - however dramatic the injury everyone would have just assumed you'd been to the park.
I'm actually wincing at the thought of that... OUCH!John said:I remember the old wooden slide they had there. I suppose if it had happened now my parents could have made a nice little claim, if they had a mind to...
You were lucky....Gramaisc said:When I was young*, children were frequently mutilated. *Yes, I was.

glad you stuck around long enough to see all the responses, so you can see we're all good eggs really - as tek-monkey said, it's easy to get the wrong end of the stick when all you've got is words on a screen..

The best part was that she had difficulty getting her out as she had an even smaller baby in her arms.bobbythomas21 said:Daniella loves the parks she squeals, babbles with delight when we drive past, when we have been in there i have been hot on her heels behind her she wears a little back pack ruck sack harness which i hold the handle to.
i don't smoke so you won't find me doing that horrible habit, i was unaware that a mother allowed a little one in the skate area, she must be crazy to allow that.

If Daniella had been seriously hurt then that would have been a different matter to action on.
