Is Fur Fair?

Was wondering what everyone thought of wearing fur?

Fake fur is everywhere so can you even tell the difference, and if you can does it matter?

What about 'vintage' fur coats and stoles? Because it’s antique is that better?

Does anyone still care? Or is it a debate we left back in the 90's?

Is there any difference between a fur coat and leather shoes? I mean in terms of the moral argument.

I have leather shoes and handbags but own nothing that is fur. Personally I don't like the idea of killing an animal for fashion's sake, but if the animal is already dead - for meat production, why not make use of every part of it. Horse hair in bows, rabbit skin coat, buffalo hide rugs ect.

I know someone will correct if i'm wrong and would expect nothing less. But i believe that the leather trade is a byproduct of the meat trade. However others may know whether or not live stock is reared just for their hide.

That may be the case for leather, etc., but few people eat beaver, mink, sable, etc.

Leather is more than a by-product, it is a part of the farming / meat industry that is relied upon to contribute to profitability. Leather is worth about 10% of the animal's value and "pound for pound" is the most valuable part of the animal. UK leather sales amount to about £400m.

The dairy industry also directly linked with the leather industry, so vegetarians contribute to its availability too.
