italian radio through speakers?

Just finished watching a film, shut down pc and could hear Italian radio through the speakers, powered off speakers and then back on again, silence.

5 mins later, more Italian radio, pc still switched off.

No aerial at all or any sort of tv reception plugged into tv/monitor. Tv off.

Why would this be happening?

5.1 speakers, never noticed this before.

Does anybody have an explanation?

Was it definitely through the speakers* - i.e., not from the neighbours? *Sounds like it was..

Was there music or just speech - local ham radio transmission...

Mescalin.

Def from speakers, thought neighbours at start which is why I switched it off.

Could be ham, Def sounded like a radio four type but in Italian sounding language.

Then again, could be the mescalin.

I still have a few of last season's 'shrooms if you're looking to hear some more 'Italian radio'.

P.S. liking the new

Sounds nice but would mean dropping my medication limits!

A very good friend of mine once read Watchmen whilst drinking some very strong funny tasting tea, Italian Radio was not heard but he tells me it was an interesting experience.

No Staffs mafia in the neighbourhood ? :P

Do your neighbours have a giant speaker next to your wall?
Could be that their electrical speaker cables are inducing a signal in your cables.
But that would be a huge magnetic signal.......
Better look out for aliens (who like Italian music)

His neighbours are loud, but I don't think they're Italian.

Does it only occur at certain times, or is it a 24 hour service?

Have you heard enough to find out what station it is?

Have you tried moving any components or cables during reception periods?

How do I edit this?
I know this must be really irritating for you but, I'm fascinated.

The night time question does make sense as long distance radio reception improves vastly at night as the cooling of the upper atmosphere causes signals to bounce back to earth rather than off into space.

The only things I can think of is that your speaker cables are acting as an aerial, or that something else is. Is it an expensive system? I've heard of some issues with unshielded power supplies picking up interference.

It's a PC 5.1 surround sound system that I bought from a collegue from work, probably about £45 new.

I've just switched it on at 22:55 and all is quiet.

It does tend to "spit a crackle" is the best way I can describe it even now with nothing else on like it's picking up something from somewhere in the house.

Gone are the days of just reporting this sort of thing to the GPO, even OFCOM just off-load to the BBC who only seem bothered if it's interfering with your reception, rather than your weird situation.

It could still be worth contacting them, though. The response from real people might be better than the 'front' might lead us to believe. And it would be interesting to know..

Is this still going on?

I was talking to somebody today who just happened to mention that he had experienced this some years ago, although he thought the interference was in French..

He could remember exactly what brand of equipment he was using, though..
