Are you going to publish people moaning about temporary congestion as 'news' again?

Lets face it. Congestion in stafford is not news. It's the status quo. Now if anyone decided to actually do something about our congestion problems that would be news.

Road closures are OK, if people are properly informed. It seemed sensible to wait until Eccleshall Road was clear(ish) again.

Crooked Bridge Road is closed at the moment, too.

Spouting nonsense since the day I learned to talk
So in the past few weeks Stafford has had roadworks on Stone Road, Eccleshall Road, St Thomas Street, Queensway, Crooked Bridge Street and now the Redhill slip road. Have I missed anywhere?

Why not dig up every major road into Stafford and make it really fun for everyone?

Baswich Lane bridge works.

Porlock Avenue gas works - and several others in that area.

There may be others, I've been away.

It's funny how I forgot the two bits of roadworks in the area where I actually live. Must be blind to them now, especially the gas works as it's been going on for so long.

Stafford people moan, moan, moan about traffic congestation all the bleeding time LOL.

Stafford isn't the only place having gas or any type road works done, you should try and drive through Stoke in the mornings and evenings right now with, bloody nightmare same around Festival Park, Leek new road and Leek Town itself.

Maybe if those that do the most complaining stop driviing and help us all out. Road congestion is not news, try getting out of Stafford once in a while see the big wide world and you'll realise Stafford has few problems in comparison at all.

Least you can get into Stafford in the mornings.

Can you name a town of similar size and make-up to Stafford where there isn't conjestion? If so I think I'd like to live there.

Yes some of our roads can be congested at rush hour, but so they are elsewhere as well. To design and implement a road system round our town that eliminated congestion at all times would simply not be economically viable. That doesn't mean that some tweaking of our roads could not alleviate some of the problem (changing traffic light sequencing or eliminating some traffic lights altogether immediately spring to mind).

Road works are necessary to maintain our roads and infrastructure and I am sure you will find they take place in all towns. They are a major source of annoyance, but apart from careful planning to ensure that they don't 'overlap' causing extra delay, there isn't any alternative if we want roads, water, gas and electric to work as efficiently as possible.

Seeing as roadworks won't ever cease until all roads and pipes are in excellent condition (and then, only temporarily). As this will never happen, they are an inevitable part of life.

I'd rather be annoyed by traffic caused by road work diversions than traffic caused by an accident caused by a badly maintained road.

So if you complain about the roads you should stop driving.

Does that mean if you complain about the Government you should stop voting?

Well to make my position clear, i'm from Nottingham. About 10 years ago the council decided to completely over haul the entire road system in the city centre. Now yes, there was chaos. But even with every road in the city centre (a road layout that was based on an old system going back to when the castle was in power, like staffords layout) traffic still moved. And that was with every road being worked on.

Something can be done about staffords roads, but the council have to want to do something about it. It is a question of money, but there is an aurgment that if you improve access and traffic flow through the town it will in the long run pay off.

And yes, nottingham is not stafford. Nottingham is much bigger with much more traffic. But that's kind of my point.

Oh Aracdesteve I moved back to Staffordshire from Nottingham last year, I lived close to the centre in an appartment that was a converted warehouse down the road from the station and what a mare Notts roads system is and this is a city that has 4 lanes going one way in some places.
Granted alot of work was going on especially around the station, to the extent that the appartment block exit was blocked off and the road closed without any notice. Notts is a great place but at peak times and in my opinion and experience Notts is the worst place to drive only around after Salford :)

Council cannot afford to anything about, I think people need to wake up and get real. The money for the Western bypass was suppsoed to be funded directly from central government but that was pulled. With the exception of such an idea most of Stafford's roads in the town are flanked by housing/ businesses the road system is here to stay people, if you drive get used to congestion as the road system gets slower and slower as more cars hit the road in thsi country.

I still cannot see the issue with Stafford, you people have it so damn easy down here ;)

Maybe there are two Nottinghams or the rose tinting on your glasses is a tad heavy because up until late last year I had to travel to Nottingham about three times a week on business and this is not what I experienced. The drive in and out along University Boulevard/Beeston Rd/Abbey Bridge was an absolute shocker at rush hour. Outside of London, it is easily the worst stretch of road I have come across for regular congestion (although Edinburgh with all the tram works runs it close).

Stafford is a picnic in comparison.

I went to Nottingham for the day about five years ago, having not been there for about thirty years, and was astounded by the traffic. I'm not one for pressing the button and waiting for the green man, but you've got no chance at finding a random gap in the multi-lane race tracks that seemed to abound there.

And the noise! There was a constant roar that pervaded into the buildings...
