Karma II indian restaurant

decided to start a new thread, since i feel this place deserves it :)

for those that don't know, it's the little place that used to be Cadillac Jack's, just next door to the cinema.. see here for initial reports..

booked a table for 17 for my birthday last friday, and in a nutshell we all had a great time.. the place is lovely inside - spacious, without being too big, and well lit without being too bright.. the service was great, very willing to offer advice to those who were only used to have chicken tikka masala, etc.. a couple of people were a little surprised at how spicy theirs was (as in, 2 people out of 17), so maybe err on the side of caution if mild is your thang.. other than that, the food was brilliant - many people commented that it was the best indian they had had in stafford, supporting other comments made on here..

tbh, by the time the food arrived i was more than a little merry, so i can't comment personally in too much detail.. i remember enjoying it, but anything beyond that is just a blur.. this, however, i would take as a sign that i felt very comfortable and i can definitely say that i enjoyed the evening enormously!

they even stopped me on the way out, wished me happy birthday, and gave me a bottle of wine, which i thought was a really nice gesture :)

Always looks empty when you walk past.

Unfortunately, we are all conditioned to believe Rose of Kashmir/ Reynolds,is the best you can get

Will def give them a try. We were glad to try an empty Dilshads a while ago too and the meal was better than the avergage Greyfriars fare

My comments would be very similar to those of DB...had a fantastic meal and night in general, and would definitely say that this place is the best eat-in curry shop in Stafford.

As far as the spiciness is concerned I think it's because many of the takeaway places don't make the food as spicy as it should be in the first place, so when you go somewhere that does do things with the right amount of heat/spice it comes as a bit of a shock for some people who have become accustomed to bland, creamy sh1t.

The service was great, the food was even better, and a few pints of very cold Cobra really did the trick. Certainly going back in the near future.

unfortunately true.. anywhere that enhabits that lot seems to go tits-up eventually, regardless of how good it is :(

i've never heard anyone claim that, and i've never even been to the place, let alone consider it the best, so i wouldn't say we "all" believe that! for me, the best tasting is still dilshad's, but i agree with andreas that karma ii is the best eat-in experience :)

I also know people who are of the 'the Rose is best' opinion, and I went there twice - not of my own volition. I wasn't impressedv at all, but different people have different requirements - which is probably just as well, or they would be clogging up places like Karma, etc...

Not sure how true this is, but been told Karma II are having money issues. The unlicensed moose knows someone living in the flats above, who has seen bailiffs circling recently. I hope they don't shut before I have a chance to try the place, but my GF is on a diet for the rest of the month so won't go out to eat nice foods with me :(

I've never seen anyone in there. Walked past last night and there wasn't a soul i could see.
Had a look in through the window on Friday night but it was deserted so went to Spice Island instead.

There were 4 occupied tables last night, so not busy really. However you can't see most of the tables from the street, so probably looked worse. Food was great, very different to most other places although we did go for different dishes I suppose. Service was great, food was great, really couldn't fault the place (although several ciders had passed my lips at this point!).

3 of us ate, had poppadoms / starter / main / rice each and then a nan to share plus 2 drinks each. Came to £50, really can't grumble. Shall definately visit again, don't let the lack of other customers put you off or we may lose another decent resaurant.

We might try again this weekend after a visit to the beer festival, although that is probably not the best time to sample food!

Its worth it, we were very impressed. My GFs brother who is usually critical of most things said it was the best curry he'd had in years.

I'm not sure what it was (poss due to the multiple ciders!) but there was something different about the food. My GF thinks its possibly a touch of lime but I'm really not sure. Most indian currys have a similar base taste, Malabar is a bit different usually and so is this place. Also its a bit like a tardis (or a cannock lass), tis a lot bigger than it looks once you're inside!

Am not sure whether I want to try the Indian now or the Cannock lass......although my wife would probably not approve of the latter.
