It seems that banks are now required to alert you if you are going overdrawn, or beyond an agreed overdraft limit.
Mine has you opted in, if they have your mobile number - I never had any reason to supply them with that before, but have just updated my profile to include it - it meant that I finally have used the card reader that I must have had for at least five years now.
Luckily, I did know where it was.
It's been available for a few years, but in an opt-in manner. Now you will be opted-in by default, though you can opt out, if you so wish.
