Very strange Cameron has announced he will stand down before another election, although with Boris back on the scene? he may think it's better to jump before he's pushed.

I know you vote for the party not the leader (or do we?) but I can't see the logic of going into an Election campaign with a lame duck leader.

Cameron has also expressed a desire to serve a full term, if he gets back in. I can't see how this would work as a new leader would want time to stamp there own mark on the party, so six/ twelve months before the election ?. A few years into the next parliament, or sooner, the press will only be interested in his imminent demise and new replacement. Not a great way to run a political party.

I think what we are forgetting, as mere mortals, is that the likes of Cameron and Osborne have their whole lives mapped out from birth.

Lord Cameron of Toffsville and Lord Osborne of WreckedtheFamiliesRiches will have their directorships lined up already, and thier world speaking tours at a million sterling a pop diaried in

Yes and no, he was voted as party leader by his party after about three other awful choices (13 pints Vague, IDS and the Prince of Darkness). If he won a seat in the 1997 in Stafford who knows where he might have ended up?

I don't remember Blair being a down to earth comprehensive educated "commoner". The least privileged PM we've had for years was John "peas" Major.

Missed (didn't know it was on) the debate last night.

I'll presume it was all rather silly though, yeah?
