Have to say I disagree with changes to the pedestrian crossings re-locating the red/green man signal to by the push button - though sadly this is now standard design the Department for Transport specify. I can see why partially sighted people find them useful, but I don't like not having the red/green man on the opposite side of the road. Don't see why there can't be both.
In Birmingham when the new roads around the Bull Ring opened the pedestrian crossings on Moor Street had the new style design. There were lots of pedestrian accidents, partly to do with having one carriageway both ways, and the other one-way, but also the design of the pedestrian crossings was blamed and Birmingham City Council eventually changed them to the traditional design with green man on the opposite side of the road.
