Lammascote Island - new traffic lights

Have to say I disagree with changes to the pedestrian crossings re-locating the red/green man signal to by the push button - though sadly this is now standard design the Department for Transport specify. I can see why partially sighted people find them useful, but I don't like not having the red/green man on the opposite side of the road. Don't see why there can't be both.

In Birmingham when the new roads around the Bull Ring opened the pedestrian crossings on Moor Street had the new style design. There were lots of pedestrian accidents, partly to do with having one carriageway both ways, and the other one-way, but also the design of the pedestrian crossings was blamed and Birmingham City Council eventually changed them to the traditional design with green man on the opposite side of the road.

Money i guess, and carbon.

I agree though I much prefer them opposite, but i reckon we'll get used to it.

"gyratory system"...

...just to make clear it's not a roundabout any more. It's now something much more rude-sounding. Even though I haven't had the pleasure of driving round it yet, what with the increased frequency of having to stop an' all.
They should turn the lights off late at night. I'm guessing they don't already, as that'd be far too good an idea.

"ultra low energy lamps will play a part in reducing Staffordshire's CO2 emissions"

...great! So we'll have lower council tax bills next year then...?

Or will they generate more CO2 from the stationary vehicles whose drivers have to sit there watching them change colour?

Usual council "cloak and mirrors" bullshit.... per set of lights they may produce more CO2 emissions, but since we now have (probably) 5 times as many sets of lights as we did before then I seriously doubt overall that this is the case.

The council should concentrate on filling in some of the suspension breaking pot holes that litter the county towns roads rather than installing needless speed humps, traffic lights and dangerous filter lanes (Chell island).

...put a green filter arrow for the turning onto Riverway to reduce the needless traffic conjestion that builds up past the leisure centre. Maybe this is too much common sense though!?
You can't say things like that! It harms the amount of fuel tax the government gets from all these stationary drivers with running engines!

They clearly LIKE the fact that only 1 or 2 cars can get through each light change, otherwise they would do something about it.

Strange how they think that traffic lights will stop congestion going to the weston road from the roundabout...all it will do is make even more w*nkers jump red lights when the traffic is bad.

I'm just completely and utterly gobsmacked they haven't realised they'd make an absolute killing off installing Red Light cameras on the lights where the Malt and Hops was! How many of us have been there and seen people jump the lights on a saturday just because they're so impatient?

Stafford needs to be knocked down and rebuilt. Hell...a park and ride at Junction 14 would make more sense!

But NO...STAFFORDSHIRE/STAFFORD COUNCIL/BOROUGH COUNCIL is run by COMPLETE AND UTTER F*CKBAGS WHO ARE SO INCOMPETENT THEY WOULD FAIL A BLOOD TEST!!!!!!!!!!!!

Had to get that off my chest :)

Why don't government sites allow comments?? Is it cos they know they're useless and don't want the 'stupid public' to tell them it?

I still don't get how it's a safety upgrade at all...they've not even added extra crossings lol...*sighs*

This will help to reduce accidents as pedestrians will need to look towards traffic, rather than straight ahead, to watch out for the signal before crossing the road.
Whilst I appreciate that the lights being on the posts will help hard of sight people (and I'm all for this) do we REALLY need to cater for complete idiots who will happily walk into the road without checking that people have stopped first, even if there is a green man?! Seriously, if you're that unaware of your surroundings society doesn't need you. Gettin a bit sick of this catering to the needs of the completely idiotic. And its costing a fortune.

don't mention the blinds
got my 1st view of these new lights in action late last night, surely between certain hours of the night/early morn they could be switched off. as there was next to no traffic in the roads......

The problem with that is people might forget to stop for them in the daytime. I agree it would be better it's just alot of drivers are too stupid to cope with such a system.

dunno about traffic/planning law but im sure new signals ect should have warning signs and such....... none of wich have been put up for the new queensway lights.
pretty sure all new light sytems are led's, use very little power and are very bright.
and as for turning the lights off, why not not have them flashing amber(uses even less power) between certain times so as to impress the the beware/ proceed with cuation rule.... all you have to do then is give way as per normal?
but apaert from all that, i think they are a complete waste of time! been working for a week or so now and i have lost count of how many times ive nearly been t'boned by some numbskull who doesnt think red applies to them.

There are part-time signals on a few of the M6 junctions. The precedent exists.
Part - time signals exist on Roundabouts and Entry Slip Roads. Signals on the Entry Slip Road are part of what is known as "ramp metering", where vehicles are restricted from accessing the main motorway carriageway at peak times until a suitable gap is available to help increase the natural flow and reduce accidents and congestion.

Having used the roundabout at night, I see no justification for leaving the system on. It should be switched off at off peak times.

They do. Just contact your local Councillor. Their name and email address will be readily available on the website. They are there to represent you.
