Laptop recommendation(s)

I have a laptop that is failing me quite badly (hey, it's old it happens to us all).

I want to update and was thinking a small(er) laptop, perhaps with a removable touch screen ie the screen turns into a pad.

The laptop would only be used for internet, storage (not a huge amount) of music (itunes) and photos, i'd like to plug in my external hard disk drive so a USB connection would be good and that's about it!

I really am only looking at spending less than £300 say, but of course want it all shiny and new and of course I'd like it to be all singing all dancing but not fussed if I ain't going to use it for much singing nor dancing.

Anybody willing to point me in the right direction?

No offence but those things are EXPENSIVE. If you get that kind of thing for £300 then contact me and we'll go into business together ;)

Shiny and new - entry level laptops are around the £270 mark.

You got to aim low when it comes to any purchase eh WMR, haa.

Yeah i knew someone would say this, i have seen a laptop (that was touch screen also) at £299 but then saw another with removable screen at approx £449, just putting the feelers out.

Wanted to see if anyone was willing to mention best GB of RAM and best GB of Memory for my needs, i hate the idea of buying something that's unnecessarily overly computery and paying over the odds for the bits i really wouldn't use, but hey that's technology gadgets right?!

To be honest 449 still seems hellishly cheap. Is it Windows based or some flavour of Android?

...erm...this is what i'm talking about.

My laptop was everything i ever needed and now when i walk into a shop i'm bamboozled with the choice and the big boys (Android, Windows, Apple) playing off against each other but not when it comes to price, more to do with techy fads.

Don't get me wrong, i'm not a complete technophobe, more a hate shopping type a chap.

There is a massive difference between Windows, Mac, Android etc. If you want to be able to do everything you can do now, it really needs to be the type of operating system you have now (which i expect is Windows). Unfortunately Windows laptop / tablet type things aren't cheap, whereas Android versions would be much cheaper. However you'll possibly use programs designed for Windows now that you wouldn't be able to use on an Android device.

Have a look at this site. www.morgancomputers.com I have been buying Computer kit from this company for at least 25 years for personal and business purposes. ( they started out on Tottenham Court Rd selling used Camera Equipment). They sell end-of-line, factory refurbs & surplus stock. On the rare occasions that I have returned an item they have made prompt refunds or no quibble exchanges. As you appear to have already worked out what you need, and why, you might find something on their website that meets your requirements. Good luck!

I bought a camera from them some years ago - I believe that they used to have a flyer in Private Eye - and the price and service were excellent, it was here within hours, still the fastest delivery that I've ever had - about sixteen hours....
