Bertie Beef - double? Treble?

Reckons one or the other - got to be worth a punt if you're into that sort of thing

The Tour is upon us - all hail the Tour.

Pavé on the parcours? Couldn't possibly be an anti-Froome trap could it? Be best if it don't rain praps?

Lots of big boys there - this will be closer than moster.

Looking forward to it - you in @monkey bidness ?

Have been suffering from TDF deprivation syndrome for past 11 months. Bring it on!

Froome is my man for the main event with Cav for sprint sideshows.

Froome in the yellow jersey but look at this for the Stage -

79. AUS PORTE Richie 35 TEAM SKY 03h 30' 52'' + 03' 58'', (nearly four minutes!)

- 2013 it is not, GT @ +1.10 the closest Sky rider. The 'Sky Train'' uncoupled?

Some sad farewells today, especially Dumoulin - Cancellara won't start demain one shouldn't think - bit of a feck up really.

Cav for sprint sideshows.
Unless they pull their lead-out together he's going to see a lot of the rear of Greipel - did you see how far he came from behind and roared past Cav? Sagan was if anything more monsterish to take 2nd.

Look also at this, from the intermediate sprint @ Rancourt -
Greipel (LTS) and Degenkolb (TGA) both hit 78.48 km/h in their race to the Rancourt checkpoint
:o

I think the tactic from here on in is clear - not that there will be many opportunities to exploit it - use Greipel as your lead-out man. :)

Don't know how 'up' on the whole thing you are being, but the funniest thing about Nibali throwing a strop, and a bidon, at Froome at the end of stage 6 is that if you look at the video -

- had Froome NOT been to his right, Nibali would have gone down a LOT harder.

I'm beginning to seriously regret not putting a few quid on Teejay to win GC - odds were 40ish/1 before the Départ, don't know what they are now but that's a good price in the circumstances.

Looking forward to the hills, what?

Enjoying a drop of red.
Have I missed something regarding Chris Froome? Is there any actual evidence that he is doing anything at all that he shouldn't be? Or is this because he is winning and the other teams are trying to mess with his mind?

From what I can see some randomers have got hold of power data, and because he's generating so much power up hills they've decided he can't possibly manage to do that clean. I'm not sure if it's as much power as Armstrong et al generated though.

Don't see how they can hold any meaningful power data unless Froome has published his weight and bmi.

It's more the manner of the winning - especially on Stage 10 - that has caused the raising of eyebrows.

I personally believe he's clean, but there are questions that could be answered a bit betterer - e.g.
Don't see how they can hold any meaningful power data unless Froome has published his weight and bmi.
- when asked about Froome's weight, Brailsford claimed he didn't know.

This seems a bit obtuse from a man whose attention to detail is legendary - he would have been better off saying he wouldn't say in case it gave a potential benefit to his rivals, which is probably the actual reason he was reluctant to say.

Thing is if you look at Stage 10, he only beat Quintana by one minute, Valverde by two, Contador by a bit less than three and Nibali by four and a half. Contador is obviously suffering in the aftermath of the Giro, Quintana hasn't been on top form and Nibali neither (looked v. average at the Dauphiné where he finished, oh look, four and a half minutes behind CF). Sky just raced better as a team after setting things up well in a punishing first week - that attention to detail thing - and Froome is stronger and better prepared. That's my take on it anyway.

Obviously it doesn't help that he isn't French...

Was reading a lot of the 'comments' on the Tour last night - an edifying use of my time it probably was not, but there you are - and one of the more interesting spin-offs was this article -
Data transparency in cycling: necessary, utopian, and a complete can of worms
I’ve almost certainly not done this issue justice, but the above thoughts lead me to conclude that the question of data transparency in cycling and what its potential uses are does not have any easy answers.

N.B. pretty sure that ^ "A less problematic point is that not all teams use the same power-measuring devices..." should read "A more problematic etc...", what with the subsequent "Moreover..."
