I say!

What on earth did the lightning strike this morning? (Dan on Tixall Road was awoken at 8ish)

Sounded rather close, and it was followed by the inevitable no power/internet for the next half-hour....

Any thoughts?

It woke me. It was at about 7:30am. Hell of a crack!!! There were several good ones between then and just after 8am, but they all seemed to be around 5 or 6 miles away.

There's a rumour that it hit the common and set someone's garden fence alight - but that's probably facebook crap. ;)

EDIT:- I'm on Coton Fields and my power stayed on fine

I went outside to get a good look, I saw one lightening bolt over the fields in Seighford that was spectacular but I didn't see it hit anything. We had the thunder and lightening for about 45 minutes and then it blew over. No power on internet loss either, just a bit of interference with the Sky tv.

Heard the thunder, but didn't see the lightening - power went off here too (Kingston Hill) although I'm not completely sure how long for, don't think it was very long (couple of minutes at most)

Good storm, power stayed on, Storm I think passed around 3 miles to the west of Stafford, here SE of town centre was still good

My server is down so I guess I had a power cut, not home though.
I got a email from my server when it came back up, saying that things were amiss. Which means my UPS is screwed, as that should have been capable of running the Pi server for nearly two days.

I lived opposite Dormans for a couple of years and they had a chimney down the back that used to get struck fairly frequently....
My old place, 130 Tixall Road got struck twice by lightning and once by a NatWest hot air balloon. Maybe the giant CB aerial helped.

We were in a tent in Shrewsbury, luckily the lightning wasn't ever that close but thunder was very loud.

I was in Asda waiting for breakfast when the power went off - 5 seconds later there was the biggest bang of thunder I'd ever heard!!

Went off again briefly 5 minutes later.

Though I was gonna miss out on me Flying Start breakfast!
