Littleworth fire.

On Wednesday night last, around 8pm., myself and the Stafford Beast discovered a fire that looked out of control between Tithe Barn Road and the back of the hospital. So we rang the lads and they shot straight round and put it out. Does anybody know anything else? I suspect that some of the allotments got trashed by the amount of size 12s that were running about in the dark and the 'owners' might be left wondering what it was all about.

Haven't heard anything about this but I'm curious now. Did it appear anyone got hurt or was this just a property damage incident do you think?

It was a good 50 yards from any habitation. Just a bonfire really, but on an implausible scale and getting bigger, with no visible attendants - so we alerted the lads after failing to get any response from local houses. No injuries or any other significant damage that I'm aware of. I'm just concerned that the allotment holders may not be aware of the real cause of any damage that occured to them in the excitement. They may just wonder why somebody has jumped on their cabbages - maybe it goes on all the time.

I see, seems a little odd to leave a bonfire unattended. I'm sure though if people do know the real reason for their veg being trampled then they won't be quite so upset. What are the allotments like for vandalism, do you get a lot of it?

It depends where they are and how well known they are. These ones are visible from a busy road, but Rikki's one, only a few hundred yards away, was unknown to me even though I lived two hundred yards away for two years - much safer - or maybe it's easier to nick from a secluded one, who knows?

Best not live in Littleworth then for fear of fire, that's another area in the black book

We don't at ours, but it is very enclosed and out of the way. Probably helps most of the plotholders live around or overlooking it.

I meant in general, or rather your personal allotment then? My grandad had a one many years ago off the A449 near the West Way junction, although had to give it up due to ill health, but suprisingly reported never really having any problems or vandalism.

surely ill-health is a problem?........

I ♥ cryptic crosswords
ill health is a problem if it is chronic and not treated or treatable

plenty of that to come soon thanks to the rise and rise of the former resident of Brocton..

Easy there, one fire doesnt make an area a no go place. I live in Littleworth and its actually a good area. Just come back from being away for a week and realised we left a window open. We didnt have any problems from this though.
