Living in the Parkside estate?

Hi everyone, further to my question in the traffic thread, does anyone have any views on what it's like to live on the Parkside estate?

First impressions are okay, perhaps the shopping centre not the best, but there's good transport links to the town centre anyway. Pub had a pool table, so thumbs up :)

I grew up in Stone, and my gut feeling is it's a similar sort of place?

Anything worth being aware of (positive and negative)?

I'm sure someone will put you right on the pub

Please don't ever compare growing up in Stone to living on Parkside.
I was dragged up in the Stone area (Moddershall - Garden of Eden) Parkside is the opposite of the town.

Ha ha, yes :)

I mean it feels similar in terms of the way the houses look, and the people we met.

My main question is: is there any reason for us to avoid. My other half and I may be moving there, and are just curious to know before we commit.

I lived there for a about 6 years in total ( 2 different houses) and I loved it there. I would defiantly move back. Never got any trouble , shops just around corner and good regular buses. This was about 5 years ago before the new developement across the road though. I also used to work in the shop and I found the people really friendly too

I cannot think of a single justifiable reason to avoid Parkside. It is a pleasant estate and the new development t'other side of the road (Marston Grange) has yet to make any impression.

Does the Staffordshire Bull do lock ins ? If so that should be enough to swing it into a favourable location. The holmcroft isn't that bad and although not a boozer per se the Shire Horse is ok for a quiet pint.
Having said that being a big bloke and 16 stones I generally don't feel uncomfortable in any location. The antelope wasn't great and was mostly full of malnourished chavs who thought they were something despite being about 8 stones. A single punch would soon floor them.

Parkside is a great place to live. Low crime rates.

The local pub (Staffs Bull) has recently been taken over by a decent couple (mother and daughter team but supported by their other halfs) they are making a good go of it. The previous owners brought the place down (so if you hear negative comments it's because of previous landlords) it's now doing really well again and has been updated to look modern. It has a lovely beer garden. Doesn't do food yet but I think they let you order in from local takeaway as long as you are drinking in the pub.

There is a brilliant florest {Blooms) bakers, gents barbers, beauty salon and pizza place. Chinese can be a bit iffy depending on who is on. There is a supermarket (with a post office inside) BUT the male owner and his son are so rude and many people avoid it. They also open and close whenever they want so not convenient. Everyone I know uses Costcutter over Redhill (10 min walk) it's loads cheaper and the lads over there are really helpful.

The local primary school is excellent and the high school is okay.

The estate has its own residents group called Action Parkside - they send leaflets round with estate news etc.

If you want to know anything specific let me know.
