Local companies failing to provide fee quotes!

Whenever I need any work doing I always try and employ a local tradesperson. This approach has served me well over the last few years, until recently. Over the last 4 months I have asked 4 local companies to provide quotes for a significant amount of work at my home, only 1 person bothered to provide a quote. The other 3 companies have contacted me on numerous occasions since we first met apologising and stating that the fee quote will be with me next week, week after etc etc. Months have now passed.

The 1 company that did provide a quote failed to include the information that I asked him to do.

Can anyone recommend the following services:-

Gate and Fence erecters; and
Flooring companies to supply and fit new kitchen floor and floorboard restorers.

For Flooring try STAFS.
They are on the opposite side of the road to the cinema ...a bit further up from the grapes.

They have done several floors for us in Karndean. We have recommended them to lots of friends and all have been pleased with their professionalism and quality of work.

I'm afraid I can't comment either way on the quality of the work etc not having used him, or know anyone that has, but there's plenty of photos on his Facebook site so take a look and judge for yourself.

I've also had this problem and I can't get my head round it! When I ring, why don't companies just say they aren't interested in the work. Why do companies promise to come round to qoute, and then not show, or come to quote, and then not send the quote?? Why waste both of our time?

Good luck!! I know a plumber if it helps! and a plasterer, but I can't find a chippy for love nor money, or a floor tiler . Will take up that fencing recommendation below though!!
