Cheers for the heads up here. I have now 6lb of damsons, 8lb of blackberries and nearly 4lb of elderberries waiting to be turned into wine. I've also got permanently red stained fingers, nettle stings on nettle stings, and arms that look like I've been self harming.Damson tree on the lines near the Eccleshall Rd bridge, cemetary side of the lines............loads of purple damsons on it, the tree!

I'm thinking of planting an Apple tree in the garden. In my fantasy world I shall be able to tell the children to go and pick their own fruit for their lunch boxes, which they will happily do, whilst filling a basket of fresh produce ready for their mother to bake homemade apple pie. In reality, I'm sure they will refuse to eat anything with a slight blemish or discoloured skin and as for picking their own fruit, they can't even pick their own washing up. Ah well, I like the dream.
Gosh! I haven't got 40,000 bags, but got quite a few bag fulls in the garage that I save for bin-liners . Now I've got ammunition for my argument with hubby that we don't need to keep so many as "they might be needed one day" , as I sneak them into the blue recycling bin .
We've had a little apple tree at the bottom of the garden for a few years (would be a big apple tree, but I keep giving it a 'short , back and sides' ), but despite it producing lots of apples the slugs and birds tend to get a taste of each one first. Suppose if I spent £'s buying special sprays etc we might get more than about 3 eatable ones each year, but seems a bit too much hassle to me.

That stuff is made with a sloe 'cordial', 'diluted' with gin - whilst there is nothing wrong with it per se, please don't get the impression that that is what sloe gin is like.Lidl currently has sloe gin at £7.99 for 500ml
