It would be even better for spotting them if there were any.

Don't know about where you are but i can't see a single cloud, noctilucent or otherwise, in the sky.

No, I saw no NLC's either and unfortunately no way of predicting there arrival. Was a lovely night though which is excuse enough to be out.

Spotted a rather unusually satellite moving west to east travelling at about five times Space Station rate, no tumbling, but presumably very low and due to re-enter ?

Well, I could have relied on a solstice sunset after all.

Well i've just seen, unless it was some sort of amazing coincidence, my first Perseid of the season.

Good one too.

Not so good for Perseids though.

Bit chilly out there - this is August, right? - but fruitless thus far.

i thought i'd take a look for some remaining perseids last night as it was a nice clear evening. caught this one. same meteor in both, single image and layered image below. 10mm f8 25sec ISO 800

This year was not a good one for spotting perseids, I didn't see very many. The few I did see included one that left a smoke train but the hourly rate seemed to be about 6 -10 over the weekend. A bright moon would have masked the smaller ones.

I saw only two really good ones, out of a total of a dozen at most (ambiguity caused by including those ones in the periphery that you're not quite sure of, and the general 'wtf'ery of previous acid usage), but had to curtail my watching on Saturday earlier than i'd have otherwise when i thought it was about to hot up.

One left a really good trail in its wake, the other seemed to almost 'hang' - like a flare - really brightly.

Last time i saw anything like the latter it was a Leonid.

It could have been a head on meteor ? was it close to the Radiant. I did set up a video camera but caught nothing of note with it this time.
