Looking for a pub that does a great Sunday roast

We're celebrating my son's birthday in a couple of weeks and he's suggested going for a roast dinner somewhere. Anybody any recommendations? Willing to travel up to 10-15 miles or so from Stafford and price not really a problem. Still welcome any suggestions if any further away if you consider it a great place to go. Many Thanks

I've had some top nosh at the Shrewsbury Arms, Kingstone, although it was a couple of years ago. If they do Sunday roasts and the place is the same as it was then, then I would recommend it. Might be worth ringing. Anybody been recently?

I've got my cuffy finger ready for anyone who mentions the Radford Bank..

My votes with the Holly Bush.. I don't think you can book though

Three Crowns at Little Stoke (Stone) do some great food - never eaten there on a Sunday but would definitely recommend. You will need to book though for a weekend.

You've been to Goldstone Hall? What's it like? I've never quite plucked-up the courage to go. It is supposed to be amazing but I have built it up in my mind to Downton Abbey proportions and fear I could never muster sufficient smartness. I came closest a couple of Sundays ago, when we walked along the canal from Gnosall to Market Drayton. We stopped for a drink outside Goldstone Wharf. Muddy dogs, wellingtons and a packed lunch. So not THAT close to Goldstone Hall, really.

In that case, I might try it! Quite a lot of the people in the village go there but they tend to be the hunters-and-shooters, which is probably where I got the impression that we'd have to wear long frocks. And my husband doesn't like going out in public like that.

The Hand and Cleaver in Ranton did do a smashing roast. Think it's under new owners now though. Or not even open. So in fact, perhaps not the best recommendation..

I am told The Bear at Hodnet http://www.bearathodnet.co.uk/ is very good for roasts, but not tried myself yet.
