Lotus House Chinese Stafford - poor experience

Evening folks,

Just thought i'd let everyone know that I had a very poor experience at the Lotus House Chinese in town tonight...

It is my nearest Chinese and have used it regularly for the last few years, but tonight it was AWFUL. The wife's soup lid wasn't on properly and spilt all over the bag, the prawn crackers bag was only half full and they were all broken and crushed, the chow mein was awful and plain (nothing like it usually is), the egg fried rice was horribly plain (just like boiled rice) and my dish (forget the name) was also horribly plain...

The only dish that was up to the usual standard was my chicken and sweetcorn soup.

Don't know if they have a new chef in there or if it was just because it was a busy Saturday night, but tonight was well below par. Won't be eating there again in future... so my question is where is the best Chinese take away that is close to Tesco area?

I had an absolutely awful take away experience tonight too. They took over 1 hour and 20 minutes to deliver (45 mins max delivery time claimed) and it arrived as the wrong food and cold! Maybe it's a full moon.

I know its a bit further out but we always get a chinese takeaway delivered from essence of the orient nr sainsburys. Food is always exceptional and delivery is quick even when busy! And their menu is online so don't have to faff about looking for a paper menu. Would definitely recommend!

Just goes to show how a poor night can go to sway an opinion. i've had similar with pubs and restyrants(pistspelling.com) but would go back!

We had a problem with Lotus House about 18 months ago (I can't find the post I wrote on the Forum) and they expected us to either take the food back to them or pay for it to be collected. The girl on the telephone was most argumentative and rude.

Needless to say they will never get another penny from me regardless of how good the food may be.

We usually use Tiger Bowl or Happy Meeting (not near Tescos though but both deliver).

Thanks guys.

We tend to shy away from getting delivery as in the past when we have used Lotus House, we found they often quoted an hour or more for delivery and about 15 or 20 mins for for collection...

Will check out the place on Telegraph Street in future.

We use a Happy Meeting too. Its brilliant. Rarely had any problems with them and it was more down to Just Eat not them. Though now I've moved from near tesco to nearer the take away so no paying 50p a card order and waiting for delivery! Haha.

We use the lotus house and always found the quality good. Saying that always go and order, have a pint in the Sun and then collect. Normally go on a Saturday evening and the phone is extremally busy and you do wonder if mistakes can be made or they could struggle to deliver on time.

Enjoying a drop of red.
Went in last week and the food was fine, though I was a bit annoyed that they hadn't included prawn crackers this time.

Essence of the Orient near Sainsburys is always good as well.

If you've used them regularly for a while and it's been OK up to now, I would say it's worth giving them the benefit of the doubt on this occasion and giving them another go. Personaly I never dump anywhere on the basis of one bad experience.

We had a chinese takeaway from the place on Marston Rd last week (happy meeting?) and it was terrible. Every dish was below par and the meat they used was very low quality. First time we have been there and the last. Honestly a supermarket microwave meal would have been better.

It does seem the chinese take aways in stafford vary greatly, I've had some good ones from Tiger Bowl but I haven't tried any recently

We've never had a bad meal from Lotus House. I agree with Trumpet, it's worth trying them again if you've used them before and only ever had this one bad experience.

This is ridiculous, you have used it regularly for years and one bad experience and you post it on a public forum! Have you ever made a mistake at work?

What is it they say, "never assume, it'll make an ass of you".....

FYI, this ISN'T the first bad experience I have had, where did I say it was.... it has happened before and I said I wasn't going to use them again, not because they got the order wrong, mistakes do happen... it was more because when I called to tell them about the mistake, they clearly couldn't give a flying one.....

And just because I have used it for years... how many times did I say I had used it for years.... it could be 5 times in 5 years - therefore two bad meals out of 5 is a pretty bad ratio..... or it could be 1000 times in 5 years..... unfortunately (fortunately for my waistline) it is closer to the former than the later.

So thanks for your comments, but my point is that its a competitive environment out there, there are lots of takeaways around, so if I had a bad experience from one place, why should I risk another... once bitten, twice shy as they say.

(oh and will add this to the relevent thread, but by contrast, had an excellent meal in The Sun again at the weekend. Shame to see the place so quiet).
