Lynton tavern is closing in 6 weeks

So, there is a chance that the Lynton Tavern could be revived in a smaller way. The godbotherers are willing to part with a substantial amount of the building to the local community. All that is required is for a community interest company to be set up by the Lynton Tavern campaign group. Quite a few pubs have been saved in the midlands by similar schemes. Sounds an interesting venture to become a shareholder in a pub for just a few grand and having an input to how it is run.

So do we know why the 'new owners' are not using the place then?

It seems stange after all the hassle they had buying it!

Not entirely sure about this one. Seem to remember our god-bothering brethren deciding it wasn't quite what they wanted after all post-purchase and offering to sell it on - i think they may even have been asking for more than they paid for it.

There had been a group of regulars who had wanted to save it but presumably they couldn't gather the necessary.

It does indeed seem strange, however does not god move in mysterious ways?

Having infiltrated Weeping Cross by purchasing the pub and disrupting the social life of many groups that used its facilities, the godbothers now intend to relocate to a site off Baswich Lane. It has openly declared that the pub is too big, and would like to be gracious in offering it back to the community with a nice big monetary profit. £600,000 is the asking price. Two fingers would in my opinion be appropriate.
Perhaps i should've read the above before posting and directed you there.

Either way, the pub is still unoccupied yet presumably still owned by the above mentioned children of JC.

'There had been a group of regulars who had wanted to save it but presumably they couldn't gather the necessary.'

Yes there was! Good bunch of chaps. this is my local pub and i loved it dearly and went nearly everyday. I have been to the area twice, since its close, meaning i no longer use the shops etc. On both of the occasions i have visited the area since the close i have noticed a considerable amount of deteriation. i didn't even feel that comfortable parking my car there because the car park is full of youths booting a football at windows and revving their scooters.

There is a remarkable 'bretherin' community around basiwch/hillcroft park/walton. All very strange, all very reclusive, all down right unsociable. The word of those in the know who used to be true Lynton tavern regulars is that the bretherin did not buy the pub to worship in it, far from it. The clever buggers bought it to use as 'leverage' against the council. Because if they own the car park then they could, in theory, brick it up and people using the shops would have no where to park. So they would be literally levering the council in to giving them somewhere where they can build a place of worship for there suprisingly large community.

All of their houses must be in excess of half a million pounds and they've been extended and seem to be breeding grounds forthe sublime and ridiculous. i think the council have made a bit of a boob of this one if what i've been told is correct... But who knows. I am a lot fitter cause i have to walk further to the pub now though ;)

Presumably because they are so antisocial they have lots of disposable income sloshing around.

As for the council making a boob of it - of course they have - everything the council touches turns to s**t (effectively manned by people who wouldn't stand a chance in the real (private) world).

Too true :(. I just hope that maybe if they do eventually get what they want and it does come up for sale again someone will buy it and turn it back in to a pub again.

Tis indeed a sad state of affairs. It beggars belief that such a pub could not be profitable and form a part of the local fabric. F**k Punch and their ludicrous 'tie-in' and open it as a free-house.

Somebody.

But not me, i'm too poor.

TBH with a code of conduct like theirs, I'd need a drink to get by. Having my own pub still couldn't get me to put up with this mind control shit though:

Contact with outsiders is limited

Members of the Exclusive Brethren are very limited in their contact with outsiders. Taylorites must not:

* visit other churches
* join any other religious organisation
* join a trade union
* join a professional organisation (this excludes members from professions such as medicine and pharmacy)
* join any group that includes people outside the Exclusive Brethren
* live in the same building, including apartments and semi-detached houses, as outsiders (this means that members can't share a house with a spouse or with children if the spouse or child has been expelled from the Exclusive Brethren)
* share a driveway with an outsider
* share private drainage facilities
* marry outside the Exclusive Brethren
And don't forget Jesus Hates Faggots

You were right - front page of E & Star tonite.
Group in talks with council, obviously mainly about the car park
If a better location can be found for the Bretheren then the group has indicated it would be willing to sell the building
Maybe the building will eventually be reunited with the community, preferably as a pub.
Surprisingly the Save the Lynton Tavern Association has not initiated a thread, looking for potential investors

I still think that as all drainage facilities is this country have been privatised we should be able to persuade them to go to North Korea. Worth a try?

Some chaps were fencing off the ex-pub and its end of the car-park yesterday. And there was some work going on up a ladder. No further details...

I had a quick look at some plans attached to a lamp-post by The Lynton Car Park last week.

Looks like they are planning just one new entrance onto the carpark , with a one-way system operating around it.

Didn't have time to study it,but will have another nose at it when I walk past tomorrow morning.

No signs of any activity early this morning (It was before 9am though,so maybe the workmen don't work that early!)

Plans outside don't mention what's planned for the actual pub. Just that the one entrance onto Lynton Avenue is going to be widened and will be the only entrance to the 42 car spaces with a one way system operating and will be available for use by people using the amenities in the local area.

Looks like the bit of car park by the actual pub is going to be kept seperate,as the plans only go as far as where it is fenced off.
