Yep, makes a change for a useful shop to be opened!

All we need now is a Machine Mart....

I agree with thefkamingred... It's not the Maplin it once was. I used to get their catalogue's from WHSmith when i was a kid and used to spend 2 months before it came out wondering what great new gear they'd have this year.
As for "cheap tat" that somebody mentioned, i'm not so convinced it's CHEAP. A dual core motherboard bundle for about £125, yet I can get a better spec bundle online for £85 INCLUDING delivery.

don't get me wrong it's handy being down the road for any odds and sods I need in a rush, but where time is unlimited I'd still rather shop around.

BRING BACK TANDY'S THOUGH!! Hey, remember them wicked FREE torches that were about 18inches long and took 6 of the BIG D cell batteries?? All you had to do was give them the coupon off the back of the flyer i think. Now THAT was a great place to shop!!!

:o)

Tandy's did indeed rock :D
They also had the most spectacular closing down sale ever! I managed to walk out with two bags full of stuff for around £30!! Heaven!

Maplins is Ok, most of the guys in the shop are pretty cool, however there are a few who really need to smile more! Life is not that bad guys!

Smiles?... yeah I remember when staff in shops used to do that a long time ago too! ;)
These days I'm sure you'd see a charge on the receipt to get one of those!!!! lol

I called into Maplin looking for a light fitting adaptor to convert a BC to an ES thread. In all honesty the staff were great. The first guy I asked admitted to not having a clue (but I'd rather people be honest instead of pretending they know what you are talking about), and the guy he called up from the Technical section was straight on to it.
I still didn't come away with one (£4 seemed expensive for a moulded chunk of plastic), and managed to find one elsewhere for £2.50.

Nevertheless, thumbs up for honest staff and hopefully next time they'll locate a product I'm looking for and be able to tell me it's a bargain!! (he hopes)
