Each year we hire a 9 seater from Afford for our family holiday. It costs us around £380 for the week. As the car essentially takes us there and back, and sits still all week long doing nothing, this seems a ridiculous amount of money to spend.

Does anybody know of a 9 seater (minimum) owner that might be interested in a good deal for a week in July on a car swap type of basis? Alternatively we've heard that some organisations with minibuses such as scout groups etc sometimes hire theirs out to raise funds, so if anyone knows of any again I'd love to know.

(Other information - there would be 9 of us including myself as driver)

Might be a very long shot, but St. Bertilins Scouts used to have their own mini bus.

Depending on distance getting a quote from some minibus companies to drive you there and back might be worth looking into.

Unfortunately, despite only being 137 miles, all of the quotes seemed to average £350 to £400, so it then made more sense to hire one.
Thanks for the thought though. :)

How much is two single day's hire ( for a ten-seater)? - then persuade somebody to drive it back here and drive it back there again at the end...?

Next up from a 9 is a 14 seater. 2 says of 14 seater is around same cost as 3 days of 9 seater. A weeks hire costs same as 4 days - so again it becomes hardly worth the saving anyway. Nice thought though. ;)

I believe Enterprise do delivery and collection of hired vehicles. Or maybe any other national hire places where you could perhaps drop it off?
I suspect you'll have the same problem of the cost will almost be the same as it would be for the week though.

Unfortunately, yes you're right. Enterprise charge an extra days rental to return it to a different location, although they don't have one in the area we're going. They also only do 7 seaters.
    Thanks for the thought though.
