Mobile phones and pedestrians

As I was driving through Stafford today, I saw a woman talking in to a mobile phone crossing the road by the new town park. She had a child with her and did not hold the childs hand as she crossed the road. She did not use a crossing. She got half way accross the road and waited, still talking in the phone, luckily the child did not run out. I just could not believe it, an accident waiting to happen.

Also I noticed a woman standing in the middle of the sandpit in the park, smoking!!

There are some shocking examples of parenting everywhere - this morning I was driving to work and there were 2 cars parked on the opposite side of the road, my side was clear - a moron in a 4 x 4 came screeching past and almost smacked me head on because he was going like the clappers and clearly didn't check to see if he could move over to my side of the road - we both jammed our brakes on and stopped, and despite the fact that it was him in the wrong, leaned out of his window and launched a tirade of swearing and abuse at me - with his 7 or 8 year old daughter in the front seat.

My response was simply "Your daughter must be so proud of her daddy" which soon shut him up!
