Moving Boxes

Hello!

I'm after some recommendations on where I can pick up some really sturdy boxes for moving house!

It's a 7 hour drive so they need to be pretty solid!

Annoyingly I don't actually live in Stafford so I'm after general recommendations rather than Stafford-shop-specific!

I've been to ADSA etc and they're just not tough enough - but can't think of any retailer that would have something more durable?

Thank you!

I'd not thought of that thank you!

However I'm a real cheapass and want to avoid paying if possible!

Do you do other social media?

Some of my neighbours are finding it difficult to get rid of large cardboard boxes now that Wildwood has stopped taking cardboard.
They would happily give the big boxes away.

There must be people near you that would happily donate their boxes.
Is there a Warrington forum or local social media that you could ask for help?

I've joined 'Warrington Bargains' but it's just a load of tat!

No forum!

I'll have a little hunt see if there are any better Facebook pages!

When we moved a few years ago someone suggested https://www.slesterpacking.co.uk/. They are based in Burntwood. we purchased second hand boxes that had previously been used for to transport towels I believe. they were 50p each . The boxes are quite big and very strong. I think I spent about £30 (including bubble warp and brown tape) and had enough boxes to move 2 adults & 1 child

My advice would be to get boxes the same size as it is so much easier to stack.

Just had a look - thank you!

Unfortunately they are an hour and a half away from me - so I think any initial saving may be thwarted by the cost of fuel!

It might be worth going to places like Curry’s to ask if they have anything?
If they’ve put something large on display then they’ve got empty boxes.

Also, try the supermarkets.
When I was doing the book sales I used to go along regularly to collect the large boxes that they display the fruit and vegetables in.
They don’t have lids but are perfect for books, CDs, Games etc. And they stack. And they’re free.

These.

I'll try Curry's thank you!

I don't think the vege ones will be suitable as I'll need lids for the 7 hour trip!

Not sure what it says about me but I only own a handful of DVDs, books and games!

If you can source enough compatible fruit boxes, they will form their own lids/shelves, if you stack them - you could get a roll of 'pallet wrap' and this will avoid small items escaping through the gaps.

And it means that you don't have to lift each box individually.

Plus, it 'stiffens up' the load in the van.
