Because we are entering Best Kept Village, there has been a bit of fund raising going on throughout the year to buy plants for the village.
Then several volunteers have given up their time to plant things round the village and to keep it tidy and hopefully make it look lovely not only for those that live in the village but for those passing through.

It sickens me, that yet again, for the second year running that our plants have been stolen from our displays.

Last year, my husband and myself replaced the stolen plants and today another couple have gone to a garden centre and bought plants to replace those stolen.

Who are these people that think it’s acceptable to take something that isn’t theirs?
There are some fairly cheap, reasonably concealable, motion activated 'wildlife' cameras about these days...

Odd things like flowering baskets, tubs & plant pots sometimes get stolen by people to sell at car boot sales.

We’ve got some old tyres planted up with bedding plants.

Like last year, they have just ripped out the plants.

So either they’ve stolen them to plant in their own garden, or it’s sabotage, or just vandalism.

I've got a hanging basket lock on mine with a cast iron frame secured with security bolts.
.... And at least 2 security cameras on 24/7 motion detection overlooking it.

By the time they manage to get mine down there will be a nice piece of 2×2 awaiting them

Expecting a call that something has gone horribly wrong with son moving stuff tonight. Seems he couldn't wait for girlfriends dad to help with his van on Monday....sent a photo of his Corsa with the back seats down and attempting to get the double bed in for it's 3 mile journey :o
Got a photo of one bed bases sitting in the hotel carpark where he parks , ten minutes walk away. Then a message he's had to carry it back up the stairs to his third floor flat again.....wouldn't fit

Girlfriends parents have very kindly helped him move his bed, washing machine and fridge out today in their van and zafira. I went down to Worcester tonight to help move most of his other stuff out. Better lose some weight when I get on those scales tomorrow! 2 solid hours of up and down 80 steps to his flat , down the alleyway and running across a busy dual carriageway to my car in the nearest carpark. (pity you still have to feed the meter at night down there) Amazing what you can get in a small new Viva!

Luckily got all the important stuff out as slutty flatmate was not happy when she returned to find he was moving his stuff out. Heard something launched across her bedroom as we were leaving with the final pile for the night...

Stood looking like a homeless person with the rest of the stuff while son went to get his car closer.

Spent hours unpacking everything back at the house. For some reason he thought I'd be able to plumb the washing machine in ... :o With our botched efforts resulting in a bit of a leak under the sink when we turned it on, now got girlfriends electrician dad to come and see if he can sort it tomorrow.

Not long got back with a full basket of washing, first load in and many more to go in readiness for tomorrow nights (or rather tonight now) trip to take it back all clean and ironed before he shoots off on his hols.

But SO happy that he is now actually living in his own nice little house :)

We have planters by the village signs and every year the plants get taken. This year I noticed someone has put a metal grate over so the plants will grow through that.

Know that walk well. The trellis bridge is a former railway bridge, now the 'Granite Way.' Did you get up Yes Tor and High Willhays, highest points on Dartmoor. A good walk from the car park at Meldon and not too far. The two tors are big granite outcroppings on each end of the same ridge. It's worth noting than when I worked at Launceston College I bought down a sample of the granite from up there, and it gave the Geiger counter in the science lab a hissy fit !! They put it in the isotope cabinet after that.

I did "Nuffield Physics" at O-Level, we did cloud chambers and all that sort of stuff - one of the lads brought in a 'real' luminous war from the war - it was suggested that they might keep it in the garage when he took it back home...

No my hips wouldn't make it that long ascending unfortunately.

Went from the reservoir car park over the reservoir, across the valley towards Meldon quarry then down the road to the viaduct where we walked up to the Granite Way to Okehampton for a beer.

Return route was via the castle and back up to the Granite Way over the viaduct and back along the lane to the reservoir.

I worked it out to be about 6 miles but it felt longer.

This was as near to the route as I can get my phone to route except we went straight across the reservoir and across the valley to the quarry road before getting to the viaduct.

Received quite a few stares, and 3 drive pasts by a cop van, whilst standing by a layby in a dodgy area known for prostitutes. Especially as I was standing with a swivel chair ( amongst a pile of other things ) and holding a long pole....

So glad when son arrived with his car to sling it all in !

There's another Tor near the reservoir called Sourton Tor. This is quite easy as the ascent is well spread out. The beauty becomes apparent when you get to the top, and because it's right on the edge of Dartmoor, the view across Devon all the way to North Cornwall is outstanding.
Took this pix as you walk up toward Sourton Tor from the Meldon Car Park. (Early in the morning so I'd have it to myself.)

Had to go home today so I planned a route over Dartmoor with a walk en route but it was too hazy to see anything so headed straight to Stafford.

Will definitely go back to the area and try your walk then.

As we get closer to 'next' Christmas it becomes 'this' Christmas and the Christmas of 2020 will become 'next' Christmas......
