Has anyone else been having trouble with NTL TV. It's been driving me nuts. It seems whenever a programme I am watching comes to a crucial part, the screen freezes then it's bitty and squeeking away. I do all that is suggested but still having problems. Customer service took my number and said that someone would call me back IN THE NEXT 48 HOURS. Some good that was when I was watching England beat France. Hubby and I had to sit in the Kitchen to watch the end of the game. Anybody else having trouble or is it just me.

i know it's not a terribly helpful answer to solve your immediate problem, but your answer really is: get sky..

it's only £15 a month for all the channels you'll want (who has time to ever watch movie channels, really?), and you can probably even blag a sky+ box for £49 or less..

I know you're right and if I was going to stay put in the town I would do just that. Thanks for the advice though.

Keep ringing them and ask how they are going to compensate you for a crap service.

you should be able to get free channels (that you won't be able to watch :teef: ), broadband upgrade etc.

Go with the attitude that you've PAID for a service that THEY are not providing.

Virgin have always been spot on for me for t'internet. Probably been with them (well NTL) for 5 years now and never had a problem.

Agree though that the TV service is shit... I had it for 12 months but switched back to sky after that. The menu system is so slow and shit - we had to have them out twice for a new set to box. Sky's system is far superior telly wise..

How would we get sky+ for £49? It's £99 when I've looked!?

I've been with NTL since they started and moved around uk still keeping them, don't think that makes any difference to them. Customer service is not the best, they can never seem to go for long without overcharging me and now my TV is being affected and it takes me at least 10 minutes clicking on all their options before I can get to talk to someone. Even then sometimes the persons English is not the clearest. The only reason I stayed with them was that their deals and prices were good. Not anymore, they are not worth the hassle.

Well after over 3 hours of calls (from my mobile!) over 4 different occasions, they still completely failed to set up a direct debit to charge me. I tried, I gave them the details every time, but somehow it was too hard to set it up. Last month I finally got a letter from a debt collection agency, 3 days away from 3 years after I first signed up! Guess what, my broadband still works :D

Haven't NTL merged with (or been swallowed up by) Virgin? I thought everything was supposed to get better... Oh, well, glad I stuck with freeview!

Have noticed 80GB (40hrs) boxes for sky + going for about 50/60 quid on t'ebay
Good deal is that , think we paid 149.00 when we first got it . Also there is no onger additional 10 pound added on for sky+ these days .

We already have the box so happy days !

if anyone is already with sky, and are outside of your contract, you can easily get a sky+ box for free.. just phone up and tell them you want to cancel your sky as you are moving to virgin.. obviously a heinous lie, and no-one in their right mind would actually do that, so try and make it convincing..

they will obviously try and convince you to stay, but stand your ground and just say that you work shifts so you are never around to watch all the sky programs you really enjoy, or something.. the person on the phone will probably offer you a new sky+ box for £49, but just tell them "no thanks".. note that this person cannot offer you a free sky+ box - it is the retentions team who will do this..

under the terms of your contract, there is a 30-day cancellation notice period, so don't worry - you will not suddenly just lose your sky connection! just stand your ground, politely tell them you want to cancel, and let that be that for the time being.. now just sit around and wait.. about a week before your 30-day notice period is up, you will start getting calls from sky, desperately trying to get you to stay.. they might offer you discount packages, or try and give you free internet or something, but hold out until they mention sky+.. play your cards right, and you can get a brand new sky+ box absolutely free, with free installation..

i did it a couple of months ago, so i know it works.. then they tried to charge me £50 "moving fee" to install a dish at my new house in stafford when i moved.. i told them to take the whole thing back and i would go with virgin.. surprise surprise - they apologised and offered to do everything for free :D

note that there are no longer different capacity sky+ boxes on the market (i.e. different hard drive sizes).. all boxes are now 80gb, as the larger capacity ones were prone to crashing all the time..

Just the opposite of what we used to do with NTL , strange how things change!

Interested in the comment about capacity tho DB

Have heard it is possible to install much larger HD in the sky+ box and it apparently works assuming all firmware etc is up to speed , you appear to know something of a different story ?.I am looking to upgrade ours . What are the problems associated with increasing capacity that you know of?

Well I paid my bill, all £1317 of it. And guess what they did? Cut me off! Seriously, I now have no broadband because I dared to pay them. My account has been terminated with extreme prejudice, and I can't re-open it again until they figure out why my account is so messed up. I don't have a BT line, so can't get ADSL set up easily, so I'm now offline :(

Or at least I would be. Plugged a spare modem in I borrowed off a mate, works a treat. We'll use that til it tops, then sign up again :D
