just a quick note to say that I have finally got on the property ladder and I have moved in - on the Quadrant!

As Tiscali take a ridiculous amount of time to sort things out when people move house I will be internetless for the next two weeks or so.... Bis dann!

Mate, seriously, cancel your account now. I won't go into details but I've had 3 months worth of grief of them - I've cancelled my account, but I'm still getting ridiculous letters claiming I owe them money.

this is good advice.. i believe andreas has had trouble with them recently 'n' all..

aren't you in a cabled area? get ntl/telewest/virgin/whatever they're called this week.. i know there are a lot of horror stories, but that relates to their (admittedly abysmal) customer service.. if you are reasonably tech savvy (as i believe you are) you probably won't ever have to talk to them, and their actual internet service is unrivalled.. 10mb connection for about £15, or something daft.. plus it's cable, so you don't get the congestion problems associated with ADSL..

Yeah in the last 2 months they've cut us off a couple of times, and for no apparent reason. Other than that i've had no issues with them. I know people who've had problems with Sky, NTL/Telewest/Virgin, BT...in fact pretty much ALL providers. I think you're very lucky if you never have a problem with a provider of any services, whether this be utilities, banks etc, so i'm just going to stick with Tiscali in a 'better the devil you know' stylee, until they do something which really gets my goat. When this happens (and you can bet your bottom dollar that it will) I will not be expecting whoever I go with to be faultless....just something i've come to terms with.

Sorry Sofa old chap...just remembered the reason for this thread! Many congrats on your new home neighbour....welcome to the Quadrant! Will see you this eve for a toast (or two).. :pint:

Virgin are fine with us, apart from the fact that they keep charging us too much money and we have to phone up every month and get some of the bill taken off. But the net connection is quick and acceptably reliable. Don't think much of their cable TV system as a system, but the On Demand is the dog's danglies. :)

Yeah its a big up for Virgin from me! Don't really like Branson too much, but its got to better than giving your hard earned wonga to that once Australian, now American meglomaniac; I was almost glad when I lost Lost, meant I had no reason to watch anything on Sky.

But still in the market for a hookey DVD of the last Lost series, how embarrassing is that?

just to clarify - we're talking about Virgin's internet service here.. their TV is shockingly bad - terrible hardware, awful user interface, woeful customer service..

sky, on the other hand, is like mana from TV heaven..

i havent had any problems with my virgin gossip package (tinternet, tv and mobile for £30/month).

granted, i want one of the new shiny silver boxes coz it will co-ordinate with the decor in the front room better, but im not so keen on the new moky.

do you reckon theyd let me have a new box but keep the moky?

Virgin are..well um..okay
can't fault the connection its always great , unlike their predecessor NTL who were pants ! customer service is a problem with NTL mainly because their customer service centre is in Glasgow and they are flippin hard to reason with ! and they certainly do screw up the bills we had our first correct bill in 5 months a few days ago . Also dont be fooled by this "on demand " for free lark . Yes you can watch the pre recorded stuff over the last week but the rest is not included so any ideas of watching good comedies back to back or re running Dr Who from the beginning 4 get it !..unless your willing to add an extra 5 pounds per month you don't get that .

Also have heard some folks are getting 20 meg speeds and payong for 10 .Do we know if this is going to happen to everyone .NTL just needed a gentle nudge and they would bang up your speed on request ... wonder if the same applies to Virgin?

I had a letter through a month or so back saying my connection is automatically being upped to 20 meg. Not sure if it's happened yet or not... I rarely got a decent 7-8 in the first place anyway :(

Wahey! I said it would be a while until I get Tiscali to sort out my internet, and I was right. They still haven't, although they have told me it will be up and running on the 20th of this month... Thanks for the tips regarding providers, but, lets face it, they are all crap, aren't they?

Fortunately, a friend from our German twin town, Dreieich, has come to visit and has brought a wireless router which has been temporarily installed in chez Andreas Rex, allowing me a wireless from my back garden, which is great as long as the sun is shining!

All Forumites (18 and above) are hereby invited to my housewarming party, Friday 27th July from 8pm, (please bring lots of booze!). PM me if you don't know which part of Quadrantonia I am in!
