There is an amazing looking micro-pub that opened in a shop in Lichfield called The Whippet Inn :D

Doesn't ever seem very busy and i've not been in myself but the idea is great for something a bit different from the usual chain pubs.

I like the idea. I do just worry that this might not be the ideal location. Would the (presumably still vacant) Vidal Lounge not be more suitable?

Photo on the planning application shows it is the shop in the 1960s looking building between the Money Shop & barbers on one side and Fountain House on the other, not the old fancy dress shop. Just up from the Grapes

I really don't see the point in this. We've enough run down or quiet pubs that we certainly don't need yet another to be over priced and uninviting. As already said, why not re-open the Vidal lounge or the Nag's Head?

Exactly what Mr M said. This is a quote from thedrinksbusiness website:

"Since the concept was first recognised in 2005 the number of micro-pubs operating in the UK has grown to 100, as of 27 December. Typically one room converted into a free-house, a micro-pub “listens to its customers, mainly serves cask ales, promotes conversation, shuns all forms of electronic entertainment and dabbles in traditional pub snacks”, according to the Micro Pub Association."

As as a real ale / craft beer drinker, I welcome these with open pockets. I've been to one of the two that are in Derby and they're great little places.

Chorlton in Manchester is full of them. Probably 10 to 12. Many serve a bit of food and coffee.
