Hmm, sounds like a bypass (that isn't the M6) might be in order

Indeed, however the prospect of actually getting one is remote, since the planners in this town don't seem to understand that there is a direct link between development (housing and businesses) and the need for people to be able to access them.

Maybe a way to sticky the 3 most popular thread topics - good news, bad news, moving to the area?
that's not a bad idea - maybe have a sub-forum at the top called "New to Stafford?" or something, with stuff like this in, and point newbies to it

Errmm...your experience is clearly different to mine, and you are therefore very fortunate. Do you visit the town at midnight or something..?
usually takes me between 8-12minutes to drive three miles in to the center i don't think that is unreasonable how long does it take you

This is supposed to be a good news thread celebrating the new shops opening in Stafford! There's another thread about traffic problems so maybe the doom and gloom merchants could take their depressing chatter to the other thread to keep this thread happy and upbeat!
OK point taken

Just noticed on the way home the weirdest combination in one shop - ~Aztec cycles on greyfriars is now selling sexy undies from the right hand side of the shop!
How very odd - can just imagine popping in for a puncture repair kit and a new pump and oh that reminds me I need a corset and suspenders as well!

Noticed this myself last week... very strange...

I thought there was a thread for new shops etc, sorry to admin but I could not find out.

Thought I'd seperate this as it seems to be on the closed shops thread alot.

New shops coming-

-British Heart Foundation, Electrical/ Furniture Store at 12 and 13 Princess Street (old card and Farmfoods Shops)
-Stafford Photo Shop- Salter Street (Direct Specs)
-Walter Mill- is reopening as something again I hear.
- as is another premises at the top of Mill Street a bit down from GMB, women's clothes shop I hear?
-Furniture Place next to Sun Inn which has closed to alleged severe rent arrears will be taken over by a care team company.
-Esprei on Martin Street has been sold ??
-old Ethel Austin is being decked out as we speak into a very stylish looking furniture and rug store.
-old Pelo is going to open up, do not know as what but it is not Costa Coffee.
-most of the ground floor shops at the new council buildings will open in the new year.

Rumor:
-Revolution at Chicago Rock??
-GAP at building next to Toni and Guy, although work seems to have stopped on that??
-Chambers/ Victoria Chambers??

Whilst I admire the optimism of this post, I think the phrase that best sums it up is “I’ll believe it when I see it”

In all fairness Franklin you should get and about open those eyes :)

-British Heart Foundation- Men are in there now knocking through the walls and decorating it.
-Stafford Photo Shop -same as above
-Shop at top of Mill Street-almost finished, looking very smart
-Trendeez fashions- almost ready
-Workmen in Victoria Chambers doing the place up
-Ethel Austin place, is alsmost ready

I know who has signed up at the council, but cannot say.

So plenty going on indeed.

Of course cost is an issue but surprised the Greengate Deli and the Ancient High house shops haven't gone, SBC own the latter. They could most certainly do more in encouraging business for the premises.

... SBC own the [Ancient High House shops]. They could most certainly do more in encouraging business for the premises.
They don't - they own the house and the gift shop in the middle, but not the shops either side. Not sure about 'Savers', but the one to the right (ex Chinese Viagra shop) is owned by the shadowy Finbar Investments Ltd.

I just wanted to add a bit of drama - everyone likes a bit of drama don't they?

It's easy enough to find out who they are, it's not that easy to find out what they have - beyond being listed as you say they have no 'web presence' that i could find. Not that that is in itself particularly shadowy, but it took a bit of digging to unearth them.

Anyhoo - it's them that own No.49, not SBC is my main point.

How do I edit this?

Surely, if it's all the same building, there must be someone who actually has the freehold for all of it?

I'm guessing that our resident Mr. Lewis may disagree.
