Is that the Flamingo to us ode uns duck?

"A friend", to their considerable shame, spent happy Saturday afternoons loitering at the top of the stairs rising to the Flamingo, waiting for unwary customers to begin the climb. Someone scuffing their shoes on the nylon carpet at the top of the stairs and then placing a hand on the top of the metal banister could cause a small electric shock to travel down the handrail. Horrible, horrible child.

I have heard a rumour (via a very long chain!), that the Co-op is to become a Boundary Mill store. Not sure if they're in Leics. though?!

The article above mentions a proposal to turn the HMV/JJB arm of the Guildhall being reconfigured into one large unit, which could be a big draw for a department store/Primarni. Interesting!

That be my lil' ol' flat above that shop there! When I first moved in it had just a coal fire for heating and metal framed single glazed windows. How I loved getting up in the morning to scrape the ice from inside the windows and wait half an hour for the fire to kick out some heat.....And that was only about 15 years ago too!!

Only a matter of time before there's a Blue Plaque.

I would love to know what new shops are coming to Stafford so I wondered if anyone knows of any? I would love a primark I think it would make Stafford such a better town as everyone from Stafford, Cannock, stone and surrounding villages seem to go to other shopping places because there is a primark there so surely if we got one our towns business would be so much better but I know I should just keep on hoping as we will never get a primark. Also I have heard such a strange rumour which I don't really believe but I hear that there are plans to turn the co op into a club aha its so funny what rumours go around stafford

Not sure if anybody's mentioned what the former Jessops is going to be in this thread, but me and Mrs Doxey went for a walk the other evening and looked in a gap where paper had been put against the windows and saw stands that look like they would cater for candles. However, what really gave it away was a sign on one of the stands that said 'Yankee Candle'. I wonder what it'll be? :shifty:

Oh no. I sincerely hope it isn't a candle shop. Mrs D costs me a fortune in them already - if they move into Stafford, we might have to seriously consider moving...

Isn't there already a 'Yankee candle' shop in St Mary's Mews?

I can't stand the place, but husband can spend hours in there!

The St Mary's shop used to sell Yankee Candle but don't anymore. They now sell Kringle Candles which was formed by YC's original founder, Michael Kittredge.

In the Middle Ages, higher ranking folk had part of their wage paid in candles. As we teeter closer to the brink of the lights going out, hoarding candles might not be such a bad idea.

Of course what they smell like in such a scenario will be entirely immaterial. :)

Anybody got any info about what is happening to the long closed pub on the Island? I have seen signs of activity there over the last 2 weeks. However it does seem rather low-key, i.e chaps with wheelbarrows rather than full-on renovation/refurbish.

The old Saab garage, next to the Greyhound at Yarlet, which was a lampshade shop for a few years, is currently in the process of being renovated and the signs were going up today, suggesting that it will be selling hot-tubs.
They were , for a while, also an Alfa Romeo dealer. Loved the car I bought there, though their capacity to support/ service the marque was crap.
