Nishads Stafford

No other place to put this, so sorry to bump an old thread. Had a takeaway last night from Nishads, love Nishads, eat in or takeaway but last night, the first time we have had a taekaway from them in over a year, was very very disappointed in the quality. The food was bland, the meat was tough, items missing from the order, not happy at all. We have found that in Stafford, indian restaurants seem to have a different quality for takeaway as opposed to the quality for sit in.

Admin Edit: Posts moved to a new thread. Can't believe we didn't have one for Nishads already!

We went when we first moved to Stafford as a lot of people rated it but to be honest I thought it was Ok.

I'd have said I would happily accept, once they have bagged all the meals up at the table to be sent off to environmental health for checks and the results have come back negative.

Still never had a bad one at Narvana, we did have a takeaway once that wasn't up to their usual standards but it was still better than most I've eaten in Stafford so I let them off! Eat-in has never failed to impress.

We used to go all the time 5-10 years ago. However the quality of the meat isn't what it used to be. To be fair I have noticed the same in other places as well. A common trend in the current economic climate.
I never found the setting to be very good myself as you are crammed in with a very low ceiling and there is no feeling of personal space.

For the past few years we have used Abduls. The food has good flavour and you are always treated well there. For some reason the take-a-away never seems quite as good as eating in, but there could be a technical reason for that like its sitting in a carton for a while rather than being served straight from the pan. Abduls is 2-4-1 during the week and the "buffet" (not actually a buffet as its all made fresh for your table) is superb value at about 8 quid each on a Sunday evening.

What's the deal on the buffet, is it a set menu? I assume they don't just let you order anything for 8 quid!

I haven't been for years. The last few times were always because friends particularly wanted to go there. The food was just OK, it was noisy, hot and they had introduced sittings, meaning we were shunted out at 9. Also, weren't they in the papers for all the wrong reasons a while back? When I am in a curry mood, I won't be persuaded away from karma (sigh) and now Narvana.

Had a terrible meal in Abduls a year or two ago and won't be going back. The service, attitude of staff and food were all equally terrible.

Nishads is our 'takeaway' restaurant and Narvarna is our 'eat in' restaurant. Love Nishads food but the restaurant is too small and stuffy, love Narvarna food but it's a bit pricey for a delivery.

Poppadoms (is that spelt right?...), then a mixed starter platter to share which consists of onion baji, sliced chicken tikka breast meat and some kebabs. Then for main you choose 2 curries to share and have rice and plain naan. However if there is more of you then you can choose more than 2 curries. I think ideally you are supposed to have one of the normal curries like a balti, korma etc rather than a speciality dish, but its a very flexible restaurant so just ask for what you want and I'm sure they will sort you out. Its a good deal and its all cooked to order. If you eat everything than they bring you more out. Its generous portions though so I quite often ask for the left overs to be boxed up and that's my dinner sorted for Monday night! In fact I've had the left over chicken tikka in my sandwiches for lunch as well! (to many visits to the USA have rubbed off on me!).
Not forgetting that you can take your own booze in so its a cheap meal out. Basically a couple can go to Abduls and the bill will usually come in at under £20 Sun-Thur. Obviously its still perfectly reasonably priced on a Friday and Saturday night as well though. ;)

Is it wise to book? Tempted tomorrow instead of cooking! Or rather, instead of the GF cooking and me sitting with my feet up having a cider....

You can normally get away without booking especially if there is just the two of you going. You could always give them a bell just before you leave.

Currently doing some leaflet distribution for Nishads and was thinking of treating Mrs WMR and myself to one tomorrow evening. If I do I'll let you know our thoughts on it. - All I need now is a menu
(Turns around and trips over a box of 1,000 of them)

Agree about Abduls ... fab food to eat in and always a warm welcome.
