They sold out within an hour of the penguin and lego ones.

Unfortunately all mine are in use, I've got 3 in this house and 3 at the OHs!

Someone tell me in simple terms about the NowTv box....

I'm after something for daughters room - there is no Ariel to the room & gone are the days that you could just plug the bunny ears Ariel into the back of the telly.....we don't have fancy-schmancy Sky or Virgin - just Freeview, but we do have WiFi...

Does the NowTv thingy work off the WiFi?

Yup. Its a wifi only TV box thingy, it is geared for paid for channels but you don't need to necessarily use them. It has iplayer, ITV, 4od and 5 on demand on there, also some radio stations and stuff. Obviously you get nowTV, so movies and entertainment, but you need to pay for them after the first months free sky movies. You can add quite a few apps to it like youtube etc. but nothing that would compete with sky (so no netflix etc.).

For a tenner its a no brainer, its cheaper than putting an aerial in!

Good offers on Google Chromecasts at the moment too from what i've seen. Think it was currys and/or Tesco that have them for £20 a pop.

http://blogs.which.co.uk/technology/tv-services/google-chromecast-vs-sky-now-tv-box-which-is-best/

Essentially you can get catchup TV on both. However the Chromecast can't do 4OD unfortunately, but can do BT sport if you have a subscription.

The Chromecast can do a lot more like send locally stored content (movies / tv shows / photos etc) to your TV but not having 4OD may be a deal breaker.

Oh and the NotTV box can also get most(?) of the Sky premium content if you subscribe but i've got a sky box for that.

Yup, all mine are running plex. I stream to all my family, it's a shame I'm pushing my upload speed or I'd offer out invites. I don't need 150mb down I need 50mb up!

I think this one might be for @tek-monkey but I'm happy for any other takers.
I've just got my parents a Nowtv box but when I went to set it up, I realised that there is no way for you not to enter your credit card details to complete the setup process. You used to be able to bypass this stage but now it won't let you continue without entering them.

Anyway, begrudgingly, my dad entered his details, and as part of the process, they also push an offer of three different starter packages to get you going - the only 'free' one was the films. However, if you start this package, you have to remember to cancel this after the month trial if you don't want to start paying a subscription. Well, my parents aren't into films and only wanted the Nowtv for catching up with stuff off BBC, ITV and Channel 4 etc., so they haven't activated the free trail of films - but, there doesn't seem to be anything anywhere for them to cancel the auto renewal.

Sooo, my question is, will they be fine to keep the set up as it is and they won't get charged because they haven't started their free trial yet, or will a month pass from when they actually registered with Nowtv and it will automatically begin to charge them?

I realise that this is probably a question for Nowtv themselves, but I thought I'd ask here first.

You have to cancel online, not on the box. Once signed up you can immediately tell it not to renew, this will then still give you a months free films but won't ever charge you.
