The Goonies star Sean Astin says sequel is 'certainty'

October 10, 2007 08:05am
Article from: BANG Showbiz

SEAN Astin says The Goonies sequel is "an absolute certainty".

The 36-year-old actor, who was 13 when he played Mikey Walsh in the original, claims an animated follow up to the hit 80s family film is definitely in the pipeline and he would love to get involved.

Astin said in MTV movie blog: "The writing's on the wall when they're releasing the DVD of the original in such numbers. I think a sequel is an absolute certainty.

"I would love to be in it. I remain as open-minded and willing to participate as I have ever been."

The Goonies director Richard Donner is believed to be interested in taking the helm for the sequel, with Steven Spielberg once again creating the story and working as an executive producer.

The Goonies saw youngster Mikey joined by friends on a hunt for treasure buried long ago by the pirate One-Eyed Willie, while being chased by ruthless thieves.

The film became a huge cult classic after its 1985 release.

Astin says the new movie will see the "next generation of Goonies" join the original cast on another epic quest.

He said: "I have three children and Corey Feldman, who played my friend Clark 'Mouth' Devereaux, has got a kid now. So as we now all have kids who are coming into the age that we were when we made the movie. I think they'll create a story that will satisfy the older audience in terms of connecting with the original Goonies, and then create this new thing for younger viewers."
i can't see any mention of it being animated :raise:

please tell me there arent any comparisons to be drawn? in fairness im an 12st, 28 yr old woman....so im hoping not on either count.
