What about moving the market in to the old M&S, allowing the Guildhall to bang a nice big store in it's place.

Access to the road or High street through either entrance....add something to that part of town....make a feature of it....seen from the ring road so it's got plenty of sight line to make people think about it??

I actually think it's a wonderful idea - especially as there space for a cafe and toilets built in too.

Probably, but with a market there is not a lot to it.

I would be concerned with the lack of imagination of store holders/ tenants.

At the end of the Stafford folk won`t use it anyway regardless what is in it or where it is sited

There's the One Stop model in Cannock, I guess a company bought that unit and run it, as there's still a market.

If you were to move the market the market Square would be good for high footfall. Then the old market could become an anchor store for the guildhall and help them to increase there footfall

Why would it increase football in an area that hardly has any ?

Permanent markets are providing diminishing returns.

The current market is an a decent are of footfall already. On its actual doorstep there is a car park, taxi rank and significant bus stops.

Above it there is a multi storey car park that a handful of saturdays ago was full. Access to the current markets doorstep could not better, yet it is dying.

Councils cannot afford to blindly throw money at something with a fingers crossed approached if they cannot look after people.

It would be great if worked but any movement of the market needs serious consultation...which also costs money

How about a Stafford traffic light museum displaying the best road junctions from around the town. For the sake of authenticity it would require the removal of multiple sets of lights from various junctions and there installation within the museum.

It could also include traffic calming devices carefully removed and put on permanent show along with examples of temporary road works. I would imagine it would become a must see attraction for road planers from all over the UK. :stafford: ;)

And you could put a Burgerking upstairs, so the homeless don’t have so far to walk. :munch:

We don't need a permanent indoor market - a decent out door market a couple of days a week would be fine - as it had been for years. The question is, where would you put it? How about this for a radical approach - in the f'in MARKET SQUARE !

True but any market, but there was a decent weekly market every wednesday over the last year that now only has a handful of stalls now....because it is not being supported by stafford folk.

The makers market is a good move but any market need to go beyond the market square and down the streets.
