Nice spot, you are right! Some photo's you don't normally see! I've ordered a huge one of the M6 for my living room wall.

Foxgate St? never heard of the Stone Road at Greyfriars called that before, have to ask some older Staffordians who lived round there. I was rather surprised to see that the Greyfriars shops were built Pre 1955, I thought that kind of naff concrete monstrosity was a 60's abomination.

Nice to see the Sow when it wasn't a weed filled stream to.

Also nice to see some pictures of the Castle in all it's former glory.
It's a shame it can't/won't be resurrected

You' re right it looked nicer, but was relatively modern, and of less historical value than what it covered. I guess the dyed in the wool archeologists were delighted it fell down.

Now if they could rebuild the orginal wooden structure, make it into a reaconstruction, theme, type thingy, full of in-costume actors, and have a new exit off the M6; then that would put the Town on the Map! Anyone for Great British Kitchen II? ......

No I thought not! :)

Does anyone have any old Staffordshire Fire Service pics?
Much to my embarrassment No!

And to my much greater embarrassment I have forgotten the name of the book that my former colleague, Bob Cox, wrote about the history of the Fire Service in Burton. It was a fantastic detailed study, full of human stories he gleaned from the Ex-fire fighters of Burton. It included, of course, Staffordshire References and photo's.

Bob would be the fella who could tell me the best source of piccies, pm me if you are interested, and I'll get back in touch with him. I know he catalogued a ruck of photo's for his book, but not sure whether he made them available on line.

That would be brilliant. Could you also tell me if you know offhand if Tamworth have a meuseum type place. I have an old long service medal belonging to a gentleman by the name of camberley. It was presented to him, I think, in 1916(will have to check). My grandfather was given it and he passed it on, hense the reason I have it. I managed to track down a relative of this man who turned out to be his grandson. I asked if he would like the medal as I know I would love to have anything that belonged to my father or family. He said that it must have been given to my grandfather for a reason and it has obviously been looked after so I should keep it as none of his family would give a damn. I think this is very sad. I think if Tamworth have a meuseum and any record of this fireman, perhaps they could write something about him and put it on display.

or old stafford rangers pics?
I have loads of Rangers memorabelia. I used to go with my dad. I went to Wembly three times with them and the first time I think '72 I am on the film several times. I would love a copy of the film if it was ever put onto disc. I have kept all newspaper cuttings etc. Don't think I could get rid of it though. There used to be a panda in the old club and I used to take it to all the matches. I still have that panda. I'm a bit of a hoarder and a sentementalist.

Have you got "Stafford...A Stroll Down Memory Lane."?
There's quite a lot of The Rangers Cup win in '72. It starts off with the team getting ready to jump on the coach, and then outside Wembley with all the fans crowding outside, and the winning open top bus return going through Riverway then into town. It is on VHS and only about five minutes, that including clips of the match and a Jim Sargeant interview, but I could rip it to a disc and send it you, if you want?

If you don't mind me asking, but how old would you have been in '72? Only I could preview it tonight and see if I can see any "VERY" young girls dressed in black and white.

Skill point for being tactful. In 1972 I would have been 9yrs old.
I remember when the open top coach came through the market sq I was stood where the beginning of the old bus stop was. On the corner into Market st. I was right at the front of where the bus passed. I knew Jimmy Sargeant and Keith Mottershead- Motty, (still do) and they and others waved to me. I was well chuffed. Ahh, seems like yesterday.

I have got most Stafford books would have to check their titles. I also have the Cinderella Story about the Rangers.

Having visited Broad Eye Windmill's open day on Sunday I was so impressed that I became a fully paid up member of the "Friends of". I have added a link to their home page on the Forum LINKS page, which contains these spledid snaps! Check it out! There wasn't always a chippy there, and in the 60s the roundabout looked a right state!

Newbie
Hi I'm new to these forums.

Does anyone have any pictures of the Lammascote Road Fire Station or Council Depot before Asda came along? I am more than old ebough to remember it, but just can't quite picture how it used to look.

I'm also after picture of South Walls, can anyone help? The remaining houses are due to be demolished soon and it would be nice to see what it looked like before the ring road came along and took away the end houses.

Thanks
