i'm sure we've all seen that video by now - it's been on tv at least twice that i can think of.. don't get me wrong; the treatment of chickens is terrible and it would be lovely if we could keep them on a magical island, wrap them in cotton wool and feed them on candyfloss.. but nothing's going to put me off that fantastical combination of mechanically separated meat plus 11 herbs & spices

I read the article in question and I'm saddened that the borough I've grown up in is turning into just another clone town, round where I live it used to be all factories, now it's just low quality, over priced transitory dwellings and this development is just another extension of how the 'Ford is quickly losing whatever identity it had. Do we really need any more cruddy food joints? I suppose it's only these faceless franchises that can afford the rents in these new developments, replacing the industry that was once there and it's (supposedly) secure employment with insecure, minimum wage mcjobs serving more soma in hydrogenated fat to the blinkered masses. It really does sadden me that you all seem to be so excited about this, as well as the "Bring Burger King To Stafford" thread. In a way I agree with you - the whole faceless franchise thing. But then I love my KFC - as well as all the locally produced goodies from the Farmers Market! Just polished off a cracking choccie orange cake and have some very scrummy pies and cheese in the fridge.

I think everyone's enthusiasm for KFC and Burger King is born from the soggy, droopy offerings from McDonalds in town. When you're out and about and want to grab something cheap and easy it might be nice to be able to go somewhere where the mouthwatering piccies on the menu bare some resemblence to reality!
