Places to get married in Stafford

not only have i successfully conned some poor girl into going out with me for 7 years, i've now totes blagged her into marrying me - sucker! :haw:

so now we begin the long, protracted, soul-destroying... erm, i mean joyous pastime of organising our wedding..

any recommendations for where to get married? neither of us are particularly religious, and i'm very lucky in that my dearly beloved doesn't want a massive do with all the bells and whistles, so we are looking for ideas for somewhere to have a nice ceremony, that will provide the backdrop for a memorable day and lots of nice photographs, yet won't cost the earth..

one of our friends got married in shugborough a couple of years ago, and got a pretty good package deal, so i think i'm going to look into that.. but i thought i would ask here as well, as i'm sure many people have been in the same boat :)

i'm trying to convince her to have a themed wedding, so i can dress as super mario & she can dress as princess peach, but i don't think she's having any of it lol..

Are you looking to have it all in one place? rather than head from a churh/registry office then onto a venues for the reception and evenbing do?

Most of the hotels do weddings. The Moat House is a popular one, there is also the Littywood Manor in Bradley, Shugborough, Sandon Hall, Weson Hall (If it's open) The Stone House Hotel, The Crown Hotel in stone, Brewood Hall, Bishton Hall all registered for the cermony and can provide everything that follows.

We got married on quite a tight budget - but also a very large family and did it at the Crown in stone, they have a lovely ballroom upstairs with it's own bar. We had 70 for the cermony and three course meal, they did all the setting up and provided the flowers, we had bucks fizz on arrival, Champagne for toasts and 2 bottles of wine per table (of 6-8) we books two overnight rooms and had a buffet for 120 in the evening and booked the DJ through them and it was less than 3K (that also included 100 bottles of guiness original - that they don't normaly stock - ordered in for my fussy husband!) All we had to do was dresses, cars, button holes and bouqets and band (Pelo). which when you account for invites, liciences, favours, gifts etc. I thing all together it came in at around the £5000 mark which wasn't bad for the amount of people.

no, the opposite, if anything.. as in, a nice ceremony with just family & close friends, then move on to a venue for a knees-up that allows us to invite more people.. although we're not opposed to an "all in one" affair, if it's cost effective..

thanks - i'll get on the blower to all of them at some point! if anyone would recommend one over t'other (or not recommend any, as the case may be) then please let me know :)

this sounds like a right touch! thanks for providing so much detail - it has made me a bit more optimistic about being able to afford a decent shindig without selling a kidney..

PS - does anyone want to buy a kidney? :shifty:

You can get wed at the High House -

- but you'd have to organise a reception type thing elsewhere.
interesting.. i'll defo check it out - we really like the idea of getting married somewhere with some historical significance (particularly to stafford), but all the obvious ones (e.g. "the oldest building in stafford") are invariably churches..

edit: initial reading of this, and i like the fact that you're restricted to a maximum of 20 people, which would help placate the inevitable "why didn't you invite me?" sitch! as i say, once the ceremony is out of the way, we could invite as many people as we like to a proper knees-up elsewhere..

My husband and I got married at the registry office as neither of us are religious, and we had our do at the Red Lion in Derrington. I would say that although the ceremony at the register office was nice, it was very rushed and we could only have about 20 guests attend. It was awkward to take photos as we left as other couples were arriving and everyone had to use the same entrance, and we were not allowed to throw confetti. Also, I now slightly regret not getting married somewhere that was a bit nicer, this was 7yrs ago though and things might of changed. Hope you find somewhere nice.

Don't forget the registry office in stafford now looks like an actual office, rather than the nice old building we used to have :(

I too have recently been conned (although I am delighted about it!) into marrying my better half!

I want something simple and cheap.

I personally have always envisaged the Hand and Cleaver to be a nice place, I used to work there when Trevor and Cathy were there and helped host a few weddings.

A good amount of room for tables (and possibly cheesy disco) inside and a beautiful garden for a band/ marquee outside if it rains!

PLUS! There are many little off/rooms, cosy sofas for relatives who don’t like each other to hide away in....

Also the Dog and Doublet and possibly the Post House if you sell both your kidneys!

My mate had his wedding at the Registry Office, then the wedding breakfast at Pastiche followed by a double decker bus trip to and from the Chase Golf Health Club and Spa at Huntington for the evening do.

The walk from the Registry Office to Pastiche was good fun.

The Golf club has good views over to the west and was quite a nice location.

Not sure about the cost though.

We got married at Sommerford Hall, if you do it out of season then you can pick up some bargains... or you used to be able to anyway. Bonus for us was that they had accommodation on site so family traveling from far away could stay over although it is a bit out of Stafford.

Ingestre was an amazing place but a) you couldn't stay over b) I don't think they had catering in house so you had to organise that yourself which was a PITA although it did mean you could have whatever you wanted (curry)... and I believe they use it as a bit of a summer school / residential arts center place so it looked a bit tatty in places...

Weston Hall - when we looked couldn't guarantee our private use since they had two different bits... obviously may have changed now.. was a lovely place though.

Sandon Hall - was one of my top venues, they have done it up really beautiful with the bar area and the Orangery is gorgeous... (LINKY only problems were no overnight accommodation and the bar was a trek to get to from the reception room.

Moat House - I don't recall it too well so can't remember why we excluded it... I think it was nice enough but expensive considering it wasn't amazing (no disrespect Mr Lewis, sorry... just comparing it to stately homes etc).... plus again you didn't get the exclusivity as I remember as its open to the public.

Upper House in Barlaston - seem to remember it was very nice but don't recall why we disregarded it. Probably a bit too far out for you.

This should help further though:
