Planting of trees

A bit of help and/or advice please
Down at Riverway, we have a number of areas where we wish to plant tree and shrubs etc....
is there any organisation that would come and do that for free ? Like an environmental group after some tree planting practice or a schools project. ?
We're already planting a few mature staked trees that are costign us money to buy and plant...but to do all of what we want would cost a fortune...

Any suggestions welcome ta

I don't know if this is up Lunar Scorpian's street or not but she's pretty involved with voluntary organisations locally and the like. LS might even be able to point you in the right direction.

with his green credentials, im sure he'll have his finger on the pulse of any organisations that may wish to be involved in a mutually beneficial project.

I seem to recall the slogans, Plant a Tree in '73, then Plant Some More in '74. Life was simple then.... :xmas:

Here is a list of local groups you could approach -

And here are some inspiring ideas I hope to see replicated in Stafford before too long.
I've already approached people from this website....they seemed to like the idea of planting trees (as you would expect) but didn't seem too keen on getting up a posse to mosee on down to Riverway with a few spades .... Which is really what i'm after !

Is this is what is going on behind the Polish club then??? I was wondering why the meadow had been "ploughed"! Also what is all the white/creme stones(?) that is pilled up going to be used for?

No, the land to the right of Riverway (polish club side) is owned by the College...they are bringing the field up to sports grade standard and i presume the white mountain is sand....

Beat me too it! Whatever you end up planting/persuade someone to plant for you, make sure they are indiginous plants that would grow naturally in that area! (there are plenty of examples in that area) If you are really patient, small seedlings would be a good option. What about approaching a local school for free labour? Its just an idea. (He's got plenty, shame they are all CRAP. Ed)
